Absolutely superb other-worldly optics. Weighs about 1.6KGs but when holding it, it does not feel so heavy. Image stabilization works very well except that the button has to be kept pressed down. The main advantage with the Image Stabilization is that no batteries are needed, since it is a purely mechanical system. The binocular is a bit too pricey; but then that is the "pound of flesh" demanded by the best among them all.

The high price asked is the only price at which this functional excellence, optical performance and build quality can be experienced giving, surprisingly to some perhaps, a top value rating. I've seen it called a ridiculous price, but seeing is believing if you are serious about observation equipment. They are worth giving up a couple of holidays or other treats for.

Nothing is perfect but these are as good as it gets. Field of view, eyepiece comfort, hold, "picture quality", stabilisation function, all make this instrument ideal for aircraft observation, birdwatching (all but close-range), and astronomy. (to say nothing of the professional uses to which they are put) For astronomy the exit pupil size is less limiting than expected. High contrast, dark background, good mag., minimal astigmatism and CA all work well for DS objects, planets, doubles, clusters etc. A monopod for extended period use can help but is not essential. Yes, the price is worth paying.

As with all good things, if one can't afford them it's a pity but that doesn't reduce the measure of their performance and desirability as some critics would suggest They are not ideal for astronomy because of the manual depression of the stabilisation switch, but I know of no bino' that is good for all applications. Aircraft: excellent; birding: excellent (except close focus); Astronomy: very useful (comets / nebulae / planets - good dark background achieved - wonderful on objects in Orion's belt)

These are heavy and you have to exert a lot of continuous pressure on the stabilization lever to turn and hold image stabilization on. Your arms will get very tired, very quickly. The design completely defeats the purpose if IS binoculars. Buy a non-stabilized pair and put them on a tripod or other mount, or buy the Canon IS binos instead.
