These are impressive binoculars, at an impressive price. They are built like a tank, and weigh nearly as much. They are a new design of roof prism, which gives a very bright and large field. Edge sharpness is fair to good, with moderate false color, and a bit of field edge curvature...perhaps a bit too much for the price. They do NOT have a provision for a tripod mount, and I don't see any easy way to install one...a major disadvantage. I took mine on a trip to Wales, and carried them up a mountain hike in pouring rain for several hours, without any problems, other than the weight. I then took them to the coast of Ireland, and did some binocular astronomy with them. Brightness, and reach was very impressive... nearly as good as my Fujinon 10x70's, and better than my celestron 9x63's. They are comfortable to hand hold, and have become my default hand-held astronomy binos.
Recommended for the astro observer, who needs a waterproof, tough, hand holdable bino, and does not object to the weight or the price, and lack of tripod capability

Very comfortable to hold in your hand at sporting events, in the woods, looking up at the stars, or anywhere that a close-up view is your desire. I have mine mounted to a binocular mount for astronomy purposes (velcro strap) even though the Zeiss designers apparently did not forsee the need for this. You must have a nervous system that is evolved in order to hold any ten power instrument (of this weight) steady. But the reward for those who can is more than worth the effort. The views to the edge of field are clear with no astigmatism or distortion and brightness is unsurpassed in an instrument of this class. (they don't call them "Nightowls" only as a marketing ploy)

These binoculars are not reviewed often as such; but I've found them to be an excellent astronomy binocular when mounted via a velcro strap to a universal astronomics (Unimount) light duty deluxe. The views of all open clusters (the pleides, double cluster, and beehive always get emotional responses)and rich starfields are very good for an all-purpose binocular. The brightness and clear views to the edge of the field gives a good as it gets view for this class of instrument. I've easily resolved Albireo into a very discernible separation in the hand held mode. Coupled with the idea that they are manageable as a hunting/birding/sporting event instrument, I won't be parting with mine in a hurry.

A perfect 10! The views are as sharp as if one was right there. No pin cushion distortion was noted and they seem to excel at twilight as I tested them at twilight on a "gray day". They are marvelous to hold - they make one's hands feel good. At 10 x 56 they are very versatile and can be used for landscapes and harborscapes and cityscapes - especially looking at art deco embellishments on tall buildings and apartment complexes. Birding is easy with these as is all nature study. Their secret: the Abbe-Koenig prism design which produces 94% light transmission makes them at least the equal of comparable porro-prisms and probably better. Astronomy is enjoyable - the Moon, MARs etc. and the major constellations are sharply focused and color-free. (10 x 56 Victory)
