Wind Called Amnesia, A
SPOILERS! FAST FORWARD IF YOU DON"T WANT IT RUINED!

I like this film. The natural state of man is a big issue in the philosophy world, and "Wind" takes an excelent crack at it. I like the ending. This is an Anime *We've-probed-the-depths-of-the-human-condition-and-faught-a-badass-mech-it's-all-done-now-so-you-can-go-home-anytime* ending. I was actually expecting this one to do that though. If you don't like this kind of ending don't watch Akira, Ghost in the Shell or NGE TV. I think that dave in the last post made a good point though;

1) The test makes no sense. Civilization and society are learned -- this is part of what distinguishes them from instinct. Imposing mass amnesia would naturally destroy them. The test is like cutting off someone's feet to see how well they can "truly run."

I would argue more like taking off someones shoes, but still the case holds true. Not only that, when the Alien(s) come to visit, who do(es) they(she) choose to travel with, observe and ultimately lay? The one guy who DOESN'T have the amnesia they(she/her race) induced Are you gonna study people in the natural state or people in their learned state? Make up your minds! Stupid Aliens. (of course one could argue that maybe Johnny was just an Alien too and that the whole thing was all planned from the start). Aside from that, my complaints are a DUMPLOAD of sexual tension with an (in my opinion) unsatisfactory payoff, and a Mech that just keeps Going and going and going and going...Two years on, this guys batterys still aren't drained? Yeah, right. My final complaint would have to be this: You've been on the road with her for months, you've shared all your experiences together, you saved each others lives, you made out, you two are the link between our two races, and you've had sex together! FOR FRICKS SAKE, WATARU, SHAKE HER DAMN HAND!

All I can really do is nitpick(and joke a bit) at a good flick. In the end I gotta give this my stamp of approval *Ka-THUMP*. Give the subtitled version a shot, it makes for a good rental, and won't be easily forgotton.

Wind Called Amnesia, A
Schlocky post-apocalyptic film somewhat reminiscent of DAMNATION ALLEY, though (thankfully) without the cockroaches.

A young man makes his way from the west coast of America to the east in a future where everyone's memories have been erased. Exactly how far in the future is impossible to determine, as contemporary-looking buildings and automobiles coexist with holographic projectors and one of those oversized robots the Japanese are so fond of. This last provides some unintentional laughs as it chases the hero's Jeep for the last hundred miles of his trip, despite the fact that its design makes it clearly incapable of travelling more than 30 miles per hour.

The hero has several adventures along the way, none of which are particularly compelling. Also not very compelling is his companion, a beautiful but uncommunicative woman. At the end of the journey, she reveals the answer to the central enigma of the movie, which I am about to repeat to you: be warned.

She is a member of an alien race which has deliberately erased the memories of every human on the planet, as part of a test "to see how civilized you truly are." She then has sex with the boy and leaves. End of movie. This leaves us with two observations:

1) The test makes no sense. Civilization and society are learned -- this is part of what distinguishes them from instinct. Imposing mass amnesia would naturally destroy them. The test is like cutting off someone's feet to see how well they can "truly run."

2) The aliens are evil. They have no right to destroy every civilization on the planet in order to satisfy their own curiosity. This "test" is the greatest crime to be committed in the entire history of this planet.

None of seems to bother our hero overmuch, but perhaps I'm being too hard on him. After all, he's getting laid.

I don't know why everone said this had a bad ending. It wasn't like one man was going to save the whole world. It was just a story in time that didn't really need a spectacular ending at all.

This film, I'm sure, took time an effort. The story line is quite impressing and artwork is amazing. I too was somewhat disappointed at the ending as well, but then again I enjoy those types of movies.

Wind Called Amnesia, A
This is one of the most thought-provoking anime videos that i have seen, ever, period. It is more than a small feat when anime waxes philosophical, and loses very little in the English translation. Absolutely loved it.

Wind Called Amnesia, A
Quite intriguing movie with some fluent animations. As it dissects the human instinct in a concise manner, we come to realize there are many aspects of human qualities with exception of any biased perspective. Thought-provoking plot with incredible philosophical take on human nature. The ending was a bit too fast and the colour of the film was too drab and depressing. An anime that derserves a category of its own; I did not see any of them this insightful for a long time.

I haven't watched anime for a while, so being deprived of anime, I found this movie to be very good. I didn't understand the ending, kinda leaves you hanging. Good music.
