Description:The Williams Optics Apochromatic Fluoro-Star 110 lens is a 3 elements oil-space APO. This design consists of a heart of super low dispersion glass surrounded by 2 elements of crown glass. The design reduces any secondary spectrum to an unbelievable degree. The superb color correction allows for the use of extremely high magnification without image breakdown, challenge subjects such as the Moon or Venus. I have had the chance to compare it directly against the Televue NP 101 and IMHO the FLT-110 held it's own very well. My WO FLT-110mm is an excellent scope with fantastic optics. There is NO colour what so ever even on the brightest objects. This scope is quite portable and can be put on a protable mount. The aperture is decent esp. in dark skies and give excelent views. It is a great ccd imaging scope also.

The only flaw that I found was the focuser holder (this is why I did not give a 10). I found that even with the two large screws and the compression ring, heavy items like the TV binoviewer + eyepieces would not stay put unless you had it super tight. I took out the compression ring and it works so much better with just the two large screw. I am thinking of drilling/tapping a hole in the bottom center and use a nylon red colour screw just for the heavier items such as a ccd + filter wheel and binoviewer. This is one fantastic scope and you will also love it!

Having owned many OTA and mounts, the WO GT1-HD, coupled with the FLT110 and Megrez 80 makes for an awesome combination. Having performed 10min unguided imaging (at a local starparty with lots of witnesses), I can only say how excellent a platform the WO products are for mid to senior level astroimagers. Optics of the FLT110 rivial our TMB's 115 and recent head on clash between the 110 and a TeleVue NP101 had the 110 coming out in front due to the slightly larger optics. All other things considered the products were all equal to the participates.

no as sharp as an np 101 or an ap 105 but it's a good refractor with a beautiful focuser !

Williams Optics FLT110 APO
This is one sweet scope. It is almost as pleasurable to look AT as it is to look THROUGH. It has gold trim on a nubbly cream color, and comes with cool looking rings and substantial aluminium carrying case. My scope came with the WO 2" diagonal which has sharp chrome detailing and perfect optics. The scope itself is very compact (23.5” long) and solidly built (13.5 lbs). It is also very tightly machined (close tolerances): air whooshes out when you slide the dewshield with its stylish end cap on or when you move the focusser in. (When I move the focusser all the way in, the rushing air pops the plastic cap off the diagonal.)

It has a massive silky-smooth 4” focusser, which is overkill for me since I don't do film astrophotography. It has a lever-style focusser lock which needs to be tightened when the scope is aimed above say 30 degrees. It also has a rotating ring that allows quick repositioning of the diagonal, a very helpful feature when moving the scope around into weird positions on an equatorial mount.

Optically its triple, oil-spaced objective shows NO chromatic abberation, and that means none inside or outside of focus. The moon's bright edge has no colored halo whatsoever. Given my usual sky conditions – seeing and humidity – I could see almost as much detail on Mars this August (2003) with this scope as I could with my 18” Obsession. (Of course, this would not hold true under pristine skies with steady seeing.) I can also easily see five craterlets on the floor of Plato. Double stars easily split: Rho Herculis 4.1” sep split at 80x, Mu Draconis (2” sep) easily split at 102x. The Double-Double is a piece of cake.

The focal length (6.5) is a nice compromise between a rich-field scope and a slower planetary scope. And you can crank up the power without image breakdown.

Two minor points: 1. A binoviewer, at least the Tele Vue, needs the 2x barlow to come to focus. (It will come to focus without the barlow if you use it in a straight-through configuration, i.e., without a diagonal.)
2. For Tele Vue eyepieces at least, no extension tube is necessary. There is plenty of back focus.

The FLT100's moderate price makes it about the best buy in apochromatic scopes there is. Also despite being made in Taiwan, I found that technical and consumer support was readily available from the U.S. office.

High mags are not a problem with no apparent color errors. Moon and planets are spectacular.

Optically excellent telescope.

4" focuser is superb.(I had to buy the 2" extender tube for use with some of my eyepieces.)

Tube is precision made and very heavy duty.

Rings are a work of art.

Overall a great telescope!

Williams Optics FLT110 APO
I just received this scope a few weeks ago and had so far only one so/so night to test it. Star test was excellent both inside, outside and in focus with no colour on Capella at 318x magniication. This scope is built like a tank, the dew shield and the focuser are very smooth. The focuser holds it's position at zenith even with a 2" diagonal, 2x big barlow and 27 panoptic eyepiece. I will update this report as soon as I can get out and put it to an even more intense test.
