reliable vote or not- i consider this a horrible EP- comparing it to other plossls, even my cheap $25 silver top outperformed- the only thing its good for X-tra eye relief- john

Great eye relief. Sharp field. Main problem is significant lateral color (even not so lateral), which is important because the eyepiece tends to be used on planets rather than deep sky objects. This eyepiece made more sense before the Pentax SMC-XLs and Radians came out. Still nice for the price, however.

The Vixen 9mm in my C8 is great on planets from the city and better on small fuzzies from a dark-sky site. No loss in brightness, even from the city. Views are sharp right to the edges. Counted 6 Saturn moons from city w/so-so seeing. Also have the 6mm. only knock is the eyecup, which is stiff.

Am useing this eyepiece with Questar 3.5 and am very happy with result. Great views of Jupiter with this eyepiece. Good contrast, sharp to edge of field, like compactness and weight of eyepiece compared to TV and Pentax. Balances well with my scope.

I have the Orion 9.5mm version of this eyepiece. It has very good sharpness, and very good contrast. VERY close in performance to my Radian 8 and Radian 10. Some lateral color on very bright objects like the moon.

Superb eyepiece! I have side-by-side tested the Vixens against Radians and they are just as good in every category. Stars are tack sharp right to the edge of the field with no fall-off in brightness. I have the entire set. The 9mm in particular is a terrific planetary eyepiece.

Bit of stray light and false colour on bright objects. But for the price point very good value. 12mm LV another favourite with my C8.

Originally bought this ep for another scope where it was in "limbo" between other ep's that did their jobs just a little better. Used it in another scope and liked it so much I got more. Images are sharp although not as sharp as Naglers of the same focal length. Are the Naglers 3 times as sharp? No way!
