I would put my little Vixen against the world's best APO refractors in this aperature range! The color correction is absolutely outstanding, just as good as my Taks and better than my Meade 102ED.YES,the optics on my sample are truly that good.I can push this scope to ''silly''magnification with no image breakdown!Maybee mine is better than the other Vixen 80ED scopes?Regardless, this truly is one of the best things going in the APO market and I'm very impressed.Highly recommended!

I have some great scopes,A Tak TOA 130,and a CG-14 but as far as optical quality and ease of use as a combo goes, this scope is my favorite hands down!I have it set up on a Meade LXD-55 go-to mount and it is very accurate and stable. It will take a ton of power before even a hint of image breakdown.I watched a shadow transit of Io last night with a Pentax XL-7 barlowed 2x and the black dot was as clear as day.Izar was very cleanly split without a problem or any image distortion whatsoever. This is all out of an 80mm refractor. My friends and I could not beleive it!My friends to my right and left were using awesome instruments too!A Tak Fs152 and a TMB 175.The image quality looked the same but of course their images were brighter. The crayford focuser is very smooth with a high quality feel to it.I am completely sold on this Vixen and definately would recommend one to anybody interested in getting into the low cost APO stuff!

Oops! I meant to say "will take 60x per inch"...

After a year of intensive use of the vixen 80ED i have some complement comments to do. Whatever the eyepiece i can use the field is absolutely flat if the eyepiece is good. I use now the vixen 80ED to estimate the flatness of an eyepiece. I can resolve M13 with a LVW 8mm under magnitude 5 sky.

I bought this refractor one week ago. I did some basic tests. The mount is a
standard GP. The mechanic is correct, not as good as Astrophysics or Takahashi
but it s quite good. The optic is very good. I have a zeiss telementor and
a FS60C as reference. You can say this ED vixen refractor has less false
colour than the takahashi FS60C. You have the pleasure of a good amount of
focal and a good color correction. I did a star test on vega with a 8 mm
clavé and a X3 antares barlow (X270). The star test was very good. You have to
be very very fussy about color correction to find out some purple. At X144 (5mm
eudiascoptic) you can t find out some false color. I did the same test on the
moon and the result was absolutely colorless.
Is there something wrong with this refractor. I don t think. Perhaps it is a
degree under fluorite refractors about contrast.

I will add my comments about dark sky objects later.

I would like to add this comment because after a comparison between the vixen 80ED and the vixen 102/900 fluorite yesterday evening i think the difference is very small. You have a few more light of course but not very much and you have a pure white color in and out focus on vega. The two of them are absolutely apochromatic on vega to X180 for sure. We can push easily to X180 with the two refractors on Alcyone and you can see the little triangle close by, in the 4" refractor the stars are a little lighter.
On the double cluster the view is nicer in the 80ED perhaps because of the better eyepiece (clavé versus vixen lanthanum).
The both refractors are very good and often the produce the same views with very very few differences. The tests were done side by side on same objects.
