UTI 8 Portable

This scope is a very high quality, super light 8" f/4.5 that does not need a Paracorr and weight 22 pounds, including its custom mount and tripod, and 28 pounds folded into and with its hard carry case, which fits in an airline overhead bin. There is nothing like it. Upgraded primary is by Royce; secondary by ProtoStar. Build quality is super high tech, light and very strong. Poltruded and other esoteric carbons, Swiss cone bearings and machined aircraft aluminum are the materials. David Levy fell in love with the scope at first sight, played with it for hours, and concluded you could also pack some clothing in the upper and lower tube assemblies for astronomy trips. I confirm no Paraacorr is needed. Eyepieces have to be kept light though. Hand gernades need not apply. Some have collections of eyepieces that weigh more than this scope. A light hand is also required to use it and not induce excessive virbation, but that is doable with practice, and dampening times are way under a second -- amazing. Has built-in Sorbathane feet with durable contact surface additions. Great travel scope or scope for those of us unwilling to lug much around. Can buy, as I did, with setting circles and a battery-powered LED homing mechanism that works off an infrared-connected Palm Pilot with several databases built in with can be added to and expanded. I will take my scope with me aboard my sailboat to the South Pacific next year. This puppy is a tad pricey, but not for what you get and I give it a 10. I am not affiliated in anyway with the company.
