Unitron Model 152 4" Equatorial Refractor
I bought one of these new in 1967, and kept it for two years - selling it was one of my bigger mistakes in life. It was a magnificent instrument, with razor sharp optics and a mount that could support a battleship. Planetary resolution was excellent, and it was able to exceed the limits of it's aperature when splitting double stars. It had a clock drive, slow motion controls, setting circles, and a very nice wooden tripod with accessory shelf. Everything could be packed away in the included wooden storage cases.

The only drawback was the weight - portability was not its virtues. Still, if I had the money, I'd buy one today (in 1967 it only cost $1,000). I currently use an 8" SCT, and as good as the optics are, they can't match a top quality, long focal ratio refractor for sharpness and clarity.

For an achromat, the optics are quite nice. Sharp contrasty images with little color. The sliding draw tube is quite handy. The largest drawback to the scope is you can't use 2" eyepieces with it. much more forgiving of bad sky conditions than our 16" f15 classical cassegrain.

A superb instrument of classical design. A work of art.
