TMB 100
the best 4inch telescope out there along with the FCT100 traveler APQ100s the FS102 and its counterpart, TMB105

I use a TMP APO 100/f8 with a 'old' tube from 'Williams Optics', NOT the german-made CNC-tube.

tube was not so good as the CNC, but optics are perfect! yes, the TMB beats the AP traveler in a side-by-side comparision. (ok, the TMB is at f8, the AP at f6)

highly recommended!

The refractor has a "Cold War-ish" look. Very military in appearance with all that pale grey and off-tone white. Fit and finish is exactly what I expected from Markus. Balancing is very tricky because the TMB is focuser-heavy. It will take some time getting use to on your G-11 when over 3/4 of your DUP is hanging off the mount.
Star images are wonderfully presented and the third lens element completely eliminates secondary spectrum. Also has that "snap focus effect". I traded my TSC for a TMB 4". Although I didn't excactly come on top, I sure had a ball with this apo in the field! I pitted my TMB against my heavily coveted FC-100N. The two scopes actually par in image presentation, but the TMB easily incorrporates the AP-binoviewer. The FC-N could not. This is definitely the Mercedez Benz of portable telescopes. Markus, you do a remarkable job on the CNC tube construction!

Awesome contrast that enables me to see more nebular detail than I've ever viewed in a 4" refractor. The CNC version is built like a tank (a heavy tank), albeit a beautiful one. Everything on this scope is overbuilt, so make sure you have an adequate mount. I use a Losmandy GM-8, and those of you partial to alt-az rigs should go with the GIRO rig available from Markus Ludes or ITE. The rotating focuser is very handy (and addictive). TMB scopes are damn near pieces of industrial art. Optically the 100/800 is all I could ask for. I have an excellent Tak FS78 but the TMB is a definite step up. Star test looks perfect to me, though I'm no expert in evaluating these things. Pin point stars of course and when conditions permit I've had it up to 80x per inch (320x) on Saturn. Seems to like magnification.

What don't I like about the TMB 100/800? It's no lightweight so leaving it mounted on an alt-az as a quick grab-and-go quick look scope probably not advisable. And it's got the worst lens cover I've ever seen on a premium scope. Otherwise a really superb 4" APO refractor. It's hard to believe you could do any better at this aperture.

Truly outstanding optics. Perfect star test, zero color, great contrast.
Tom Back is a pleasure to deal with. Quality of the German tube is as
good as it gets. Well worth the price. Lunar views show greater detail
than the photos in my atlas - Amazing!

TMB 100
The TMB I have is the best 4" APO I've ever looked through. Star test is perfect and Lunar and Planetary detail are awesome. Makes me wish for a 5" or 6" model. Thomas Back and Markus Ludes sould be very proud.

TMB 100
Wonderful scope, albeit on the heavy side (that's why it is not a
perfect 10; although optically it's flawless)! One of the major
benefits of dealing with TMBoptical is Thomas Back, the designer
and owner. He is very knowledgeable and personally star tests
every scope...he really goes the extra mile. Although it ain't
cheap, it's worth it if you are interested in a top-of-the-line
4" apo refractor

Outstanding optics confirmed by star test. No color-None, None, None! Mechanical excellence. This is one of the best 100 mm refractors available.
