Tenchi Muyo review

(Remember, if this review is helpful or well-written, please give me a good rating (down below)! Thanks for your support! *^__^)

Animation:
Solid and clean... And slightly higher quality than all other Tenchi incarnations.

Plot:
The story itself manages to fall somewhere in-between creative and clichéd, but this is a show where each character is so well-defined and so developed that it really doesn't matter. You love the characters (or you hate them... but if you hate them, it's because you love another one more) and you want to watch each episode.
For that matter, the characters in Tenchi Muyo are more well-defined than in Tenchi Universe (and don't even get me started on Shin Tenchi Muyo/Tenchi in Tokyo). Tenchi Universe tends to assume you have prior knowledge of this show...

Humor:
The Tenchi series, as a whole, is probably the most famous "guy with a bunch of girls who want him" anime ever made, and it's with good reason: Not only can the show get funny when the girls are around Tenchi, the show gets funny even when Tenchi's just a background character (the baby episode). The girls can be standalone characters, and for that reason, the show is funny from moment to moment.

Soundtrack:
Excellent. Not only is the music fun, but it usually fits the situation and manages to help the mood.

Overall:
Tenchi, as a whole, is not a series you can afford to miss. When I think of the top five anime series in America, there are two spots that differ from time to time (I know that Slayers and Evangelion have massive fan followings, but I always stop to think about whether "best" means having the most devoted fans or simply having the most fans period), but there are three that I always think of as the top: Sailor Moon, Dragonball Z, and Tenchi. The difference is, while people tend to have love-hate relationships with SM and DBZ, there aren't many people I can think of who don't like Tenchi.
Highly recommended.
However, and I may get chewed out for this, I have to recommend Tenchi Universe over Tenchi Muyo. Tenchi Universe finished its plot all the way, but Tenchi Muyo is still being finished over in Japan at the moment. If you can only afford to see one Tenchi series, make it Tenchi Universe, even if the character development in that show is toned down just a bit.

Tenchi Muyo OAV 1
A highschool student named Tenchi Masaki accidently releases the demon Ryoko who has been trapped for a very long time. Ryoko then attracts her rival, the princess of the planet Jurai, Ayeka. Quick to follow are Sasami; Ayeka's younger sister, Ryo-Ohki; Ryoko's spaceship, Mihoshi of the galaxy police, and Washu the genius. Competing for Tenchi's love they have some intersting adventures.

Really liked it. Don't miss this one!

Tenchi Muyo OAV 1
This is by far the best of the Tenchi series, for one simple reason. The characters. Some Tenchi Universe fans will no doubt be disappointed by the absence of Kiyone, but Ryoko, Ayeka, Sasami, Mihoshi, Washu, and Katsuhito all have far more complete backgrounds and personalities in the OAV series than in either of the TV series. These are the characters as they were always meant to be, accept no immitations. Unfortunately, I can't really get into say too much without spoiling the series for you, because the characters' backgrounds are so deeply and intricately tied to it. While at 13.5 (yes, thirteen and a half; you'll understand when you see it) episodes the OAV is only a little more than half the length of Tenchi Universe, it effectively has considerably more content, due to there being very little "filler" (scenes or entire episodes with no purpose other than lengthening the series). Even the one episode that might seem at first to be filler in fact provides some of the most significant character development and background insight of the series, and provides it to a character who most would've expected to be purely comic relief. This just illustrates what a perfect blend of comedy and serious storytelling Tenchi Muyo has. Many have tried to immitate this mix, but if any other series has succeeded, I would greatly appreciate if you would direct me to it.

One thing that you should know going in, though, is that this is not a single OAV. It's 2 OAVs. The 1st OAV, which spans the first 6 episodes, serves to introduce the characters, and revolves around the notorious criminal Kagato. The 7th episode takes place between the two series, and serves as the transition between them, giving us a look at how Tenchi is adapting to life with 5 alien women (and one spaceship that turns into a cat-rabbit hybrid; don't ask). The remaining episodes are the 2nd OAV. Unlike the 1st OAV, the 2nd is not a stand-alone story. Instead, it lays the groundwork for the next chapter. The villain of this part, an old rival of Washu's, is actually fairly incidental to the series. The main focus of these episodes is character development, and setting up for future plotlines. That is why many people complain about the ending of the series: it doesn't have one. The story is still in progress, and most if not all of the elements the 2nd OAV hints at but leaves unresolved, particularly the mysterious Lady Tokimi, a goddess of immense power with an as yet unknown agenda, will be the main focus of the upcoming 3rd Tenchi Muyo OAV series, slated to be released in Japan next year. I know, I know. That's an awfully long gap; 9 years since the 2nd OAV was released. But explaining why it's taken that long would go well outside the bounds of reviewing the series.

10 all the way! Very well put together series, with awesome characters (Ryoko totally rules!!)! I'd show this to anyone who is new to anime. I just wish the opening/ending themes were a little cooler. (the music from Tenchi Universe rocks!) What else...the animation is great, and end of episode 5 was a tearjerker. MUST SEE! ^.^

Tenchi Muyo OAV 1
Tenchi Muyu #1 is realy cool. It had great animation, good story line and very good characters the movie is realy good. For Tenchi Muyu #2 is a little better than the first one. It was sad when Tenchi slaped Ryoko or when Mayuka died. But still good animation, good story line and very good characters. Those are the only ones I watched.

My best character is Ryoko, Sasami, Ayeka and Washu because Ryoko and Ayeka are funny And Sasami and Washu are smart, but Ryoko is mostly the best out of these four because she's tough, strong, nice, cool and funny.
