Brand and Model:TeleVue Powermate 2X
Price ($USD):$280
Magnification:2.0x
Barrel Size:2"
Description:This is a Powermate that provides a 2X increase in magnification in a 2" barrel size (1 1/4" adapter included) with non-marring lock rings to lock both size eyepieces. It is nearly parfocal and being a Powermate it works well with long focal length eyepieces. There is also an optional T-ring adapter that makes it easy to attach a camera or CCD imager while doubling your scopes focal length.

Best all around 2x power amplifier on the market. Fits any eyepiece. You can put in a 2" O111 filter and use any ep you want without having to screw in and out the filter each time you switch ep,s.I purchased this instead of a 7mm nagler for my 20" Obsession to get high power views. It also doubled my ep collection. A very flexable piece of equipment. Definitely worth the money .

TeleVue Powermate 2X
Beefy, big & beautiful, that is what I have to say about the Televue Powermate 2X. It is a very simple and straight forward piece of equipment that performs as it should. The only problem that I can see having with the Powermate is that it could cause balancing issues. Besides that it is a thing of beauty. I sold mine because I just prefer having an eyepiece of the focal length that I need and not bother with a barlow or Powermate. Nevertheless I totally recommend this if you are looking for one.

TeleVue Powermate 2X
Being brand new to this hobby, I purchased this after reading many good reviews of the EP. I'm not discussing the optics here, that's been stated very well by others. The purpose of this review is to attest to the extremely well made quality and durability of this EP. Last night 9/4/2003, I dropped it from arms length onto a concrete slab, about 4 feet. After reviving myself, I was startled to realize nothing had broke. It still works fine. The edge of the EP was dented and that's all that happened. It still fits in the diagonal, still accepts 2" and 1.25" eyepieces w/o a problem. All I can say is incredible!!

TeleVue Powermate 2X
Living in Norway, it does happens it gets cold, and I have been terrible annoyed with short-FL short-ER EP’s with frozen dew on them (condensing from my eye). This is a rarely occurring problem with my 2” Naglers (31T5/ 22T4/17T4), because of the longer distance from the cold EP glass to my eye. This was practically limiting the power to 138X when using my C9.25” much of the time.

OK, maybe some boring history is needed: I started out with a 6” Newton with a 1.25” focuser, and a series of small EP’s. The price-level on astro-stuff in Norway at that time was awful (some improvements have been done). I found an affordable used C9.25” with 9X50 finder, 2” TV-visual-back, and a 2” mirror diagonal in Sweden, and the Naglers followed me home from an astro-shop in the US, the lot for a bit less money than a new C9.25” OTA would cost me at home at that time (even my wife was happy!).

After using the Naglers for a wile, showing the dew/ice problem being unnecessary, this issue just bugged me even more. An upcoming new investment was inevitable. I have bad experience barlowing LER EP’s, giving them added blackouts, and hopelessly oversized ER making it impossible to see the whole FOW, so I did not se that as an option. I was close to buying new EP’s, but why should I sacrifice the wonderful wide field (as the Naglers gives me) on my high power EP’s? I was a bit scared to go for a N12T4 because of the much commented blackout effect, and that one EP alone would not completely fill the gap. So I bought a 2X Powermate about a year ago.

This “little” baby does NOT mess up the ER, and not much else either, except increasing the power. My problem is gone, and it really feels like I’ve got 3 new high quality EP’s with all the pros I’ve wanted, for less than the price of one. Yes, I’m happy !! How on earth could I give this wonderful piece of equipment any other score than a pure 10 !

The balancing of the scope was an issue for a short time, until I made a balancing weight, sliding on the scopes dovetail, applied with a locking screw. It is really easy to make such a thing, surely also for other telescope designs, so I can hardly call this a problem.
