Nice eyepiece

sharp but poor eyerelief.

noticeable better than 7.4mm and 10.5mm older plossls. noticeably worse than a 6mm and 10mm zeiss orthos with more colour less contrast similar sharpness.

TeleVue Plossl 8mm
I am satisfied with the clarity and sharpness of the TeleVue 8mm Plossl. The field is sharp edge to edge. The notch machined in the barrel gives extra security for eyepiece retention. The planetary performance of this eyepiece is excellent.

I agree with the opinion stated in the prior comment. It is puzzling how experienced users can complain about eye relief on a Plossl eyepiece that has less than a 10 mm focal length. Hopefully we all agree that the eye relief of a true Plossl is determined by physics. Reviewing previous opinions it seems that the level of satisfaction with this eyepiece may have more to do with users’ acceptance of the physics that govern optics than the actual quality of the eyepiece.

I rate this eyepiece highly because of the unique value provided by this high quality moderately priced eyepiece. For a Plossl price many observers will find the view rivaled by few premium eyepieces. Caveat: The eye relief is tight on this eyepiece. If you must wear glasses you will probably need to consider a more expensive design for high power use.

TeleVue Plossl 8mm
Outside of possessing tight eye relief, the Televue 8mm Plossl is a fine ocular. I used it on my 10" f/5.6 Newtonian and was graced with some great views of Jupiter. I also tested the eyepiece out on a friends 12" f/5 Meade LightBridge Dobsonian and was floored by its performance. Barlowed (2x) on the 12" LightBridge, the Televue 8mm yielded a power of 381x. Looking at Saturn at this magnification there was no hint of coma, or any noticable aberrations whatsoever! The image bright and crisp. Both Cassini and Enkes divisions were easily discerned, along with good temporal belt detail. The view was glorious.

This ocular is indeed one of my favorite high power units. The green coatings seem to aid in revealing true color. Contrast is good and the 50 degree field is flat to the edge. I got mine used for a great price of around $50.00, but they are well worth the regular $85.00 price. I recommended it highly.

TeleVue Plossl 8mm
Oculare eccellente.Con il mio C8 le immagini planetarie sono molto contrastate e assolutamente prive di riflessi interni. Le immagini sono prive di riflessi interni anche se si accoppia una barlow tele vue.

TeleVue Plossl 8mm
A very nice eyepiece. Perhaps because it was one of my first eyepieces, the eye relief, although tight, doesn't really bother me. Good, sharp views. I spent a lot of time comparing the view with my 9mm uo ortho, both with my C102 HD, largely on the moon. Sharpness seemed about equal in both scopes; obviously the ortho has a somewhat smaller field of view, but I didn't find that bothersome. The one difference I did notice was that the TV presented a slightly "warmer" image of the moon than my uo ortho, which seemed to give me a starker, perhaps slightly more contrasty image. It was noticeable but fairly subtle. I prefer the image through the ortho, but others may disagree.

TeleVue Plossl 8mm
A 7 only because the ER is terrible. In order to see the field to the field stop, you have to really push down on the eyepiece with your eye. Other than that is is sharp to the edge with good contrast.

If TV could add 2mm to the ER they'd have a really great ep......

Very good eyepiece. I use it often on the planets and the moon. My only complaint is the eye relief.

TeleVue Plossl 8mm
Excellent high power planetary eyepiece. Eye relief is short but still usable without glasses. Sharp, flat field with excellent contrast. Fills the gap between my 7mm and 9mm Pentax SMC orthos quite well and that puts it in exclusive company.
