There may be better plossls out there, but I haven't found them in this f/l.

TeleVue Plossl 15mm
I was so impressed with the performance of the 8mm TV plossol that I purchased the 15mm. I use a variety of eyepieces from wide-fields to orthos. I have found that eye relief is not an issue for me and prefer getting as much contrast as I can -- simpler designs repeatedly have shown better performance in side-by-side comparisons with more complex designs. As a result, I chose this eyepiece over the 15mm Panoptic. I also own widefields, but use them for more panoramic type viewing -- mutliple objects and the like.

As noted in the review of the 16mm Brandon above, I tested this eyepiece on the Aristarchus area of the moon (did side-by side with the Brandon). I could discern no difference whatsoever bewteen the TV plossol and the Brandon. Both eyepieces rendered extremely crisp contrasty views of the lunar landscape. But the TV plossol is $82 and the Brandon is $168-$199 depending on whom you purchase from.

I continued to be amazed with the excellent performance of simple designs, like TV plossols and U.O Orthos are (at minimal prices). Of course some observers require greater eye relief and some just prefer giving up that last little bit of perfromance for the aesthetically pleasing view of a wide field. I like both designs but find when concentrating on one object, I want to see all I can (I own a Celestron G5 f/10 SCT and a 10" f/4.5 Newtonian). In both cases, maximizing contrast in a single object is my goal.

Fantastic eyepiece at a great price.

TeleVue Plossl 15mm
This is my favorite, but not necessarily most used, eyepiece in my small, slowly growing collection (TV 32 and 8 Plossl, Axiom 19, UO 6 and 4, plus a "Silvertop" 20 Plossl and SMA 25 that came with the scopes). I tend to use the longer and shorter focal length epepieces more often. However, there is no doubt that it gives the sharpest, highest contrast images across the entire field of view, including the edge, on my Celeston f/10 C8 and f/8 CR150HD. It is the sharpest eyepiece I own, period. When I put Jupiter or Saturn half in and half out of the field of view, the image is as sharp as it is in the center. It also works well barlowed.

TeleVue Plossl 15mm
10+++ In value for my 10" f/5,6 dob. Used with m 10.5mm TV plossl and a barlow, this mini set makes up my planetary EPs. Nice warm colors, GREAT contrast, very very little light scatter, and tack sharp. If you can live with the eye relief inherrent in plossls, this is a great piece to have for planets and globs.

Really good with planetaries too.

I believe that TV plossls are comparable to UO orthos. I have done direct comparisons with the UO orthos, and prefer the TV plossls in a fast scope.

TeleVue Plossl 15mm
Bright, crisp imaging out to the edge. Views of the moon were very high in detail with excellent contrast. The colors of Albireo (blue and gold)were impressive. The sky appears a rich blck with sharply defined objects. This is my second Televue Plossl eyepiece and I am very pleased with it.

TeleVue Plossl 15mm
Worth every penny. Crystal clear to the edge. Great eye relief, so that I customarily Barlow it down to a 5mm for high power magnification.

TeleVue Plossl 15mm
This eyepiece fills a niche in my collection for planetary viewing. It is noticeably sharper and more contrasty than Meade Super Plossls and gives an overall pleasing view. It may need to be barlowed to get enoguh magnification and that would be my only criticism of it - for an 8 inch SCT it may be better to have a smaller focal length for higher power.

Everyone should check out this guys voting record! He hates EVERYTHING. Perhaps TV EPs are a bit expensive, but come on, a ONE for optics?? I think Mr. Fos might consider a different outlet for whatever frustrations are ailing him.

Most people consider this site a valuable resource for info on astro-products. It does not deserve to be a forum for misdirected venting of some sort.

I mean REALLY...

TeleVue Plossl 15mm
WOW! I got to use this and the 20mm for the first time the other night. Looked mostly at Saturn with the TV 3x barlow.
These just blew away my cheap imported plossls. The 15/barlow combo provided 244x in my 8"/f dob. Provided the best view of Saturn I've ever seen. Very sharp, great contrast, very comfortable eye relief.
