TeleVue Nagler Type 6 5mm
Simply the best EP for non-spectacle wearers. Contrast is superb and there is no annoying glare and NO blackouts as reported by others. In my f6.6 refractor, it is tack sharp right out to the edge. Also, this is my new high-power EP on my 10" F4.8 dob, yielding delicious details at 245x. No glare compared to my previous 7mm UO Ortho. Machining, fit and finish is top notch. ER is good enough for non-spectacle wearers but I'd imagine with spectacles, you would not get the complete 82 deg FOV. The value just got 'better' with the recent strength of the CDN dollar against the US.

I also own the 9mm T6 and these two are killer Naglers. All around the best combination of FOV, sharpness, contrast, and ER. I'm already dreaming of the 3.5mm T6...but I'm broke! :)

TeleVue Nagler Type 6 5mm
The Nagler Type 6 line and I do not get along. Instead of adding a Space Walk, they get in the way of viewing. I purchased two, a 5mm and 9mm without trying. My mistake.

For this eyepiece line: TRY Before You BUY. Some people hate them and others love them.

My eyelashes wipe the glass and get it greasy within 15 minutes of use. The advertised eye relief seems to me to be creative writing.

The eyecup is not adequate to keep stray light from entering my eye.

There is the kidney bean effect unless the eye is positioned just right.

There is a great deal of field curvature. Gets annoying when panning.

The glass can provide crisp views if you can keep it clean long enough.

I enjoy the Type 4 Naglers and expected much more from the Type 6.

TeleVue Nagler Type 6 5mm
Used in a 10" F/5.6 Dob

I have owned this EP twice, and sold it twice. The seeing just won't let me use it enough to warrant keeping it. It is a nice EP though, I think better than the 7mm or 9mm, on par with the 13mm. I know that doesn't make sense, but I looked through the 7 and 9 the first times and immediately didn't like what I saw, i always (when seeing allowed) enjoyed the 5 and 13.

however... I don't like the T6s all that much. They are sharp and nice, and I don't understand the field curvature thing that one poster saw... But the eye relief is tight, and my eyelashes mess up the lens in just a few minutes. I always had to roll the eyecup down to view best (without glasses).

Now that the sale is over, i think for only a little more, the pentax XWs are a better deal. Even or better contrast, very sharp, and the most comfortable thing out there today. It is what a $300 EP should feel like.

Just my opinion though... try before you buy, it is definately a sharp contrasty EP, but people either love it or hate it.

TeleVue Nagler Type 6 5mm
Great ep providing excellent contrast at 243x in my 8" f/6.
Fov is a pleasure for manual tracking w/ my dob.

TeleVue Nagler Type 6 5mm
I replaced my 5mm radian with this ep for use with a f/6 dob. I'm no expert but I felt that the radian might have been just a little sharper. I never got them side by side so it could be in my head. The 82 degree fov of the nagler however, did make planetary viewing much more comfortable with a dob. The fov is sharp all the way to the stops. The eye relief was comfortable for me but it might be a little tight for someone who wears glasses. Really the only thing I didn't like about the eyepiece was the price. It seemed a little spendy to me, but once you get used to premium glass there is no going back.

TeleVue Nagler Type 6 5mm
I just purchased a new Televue Nagler 5mm Type 6. I like everything about this eyepiece except for ONE thing. There is a kidney bean effect and it is very distracting. I paid $280.00 for it and I believe I deserved a better product.

Not to be bias, I also have a Nagler 9mm Type 6 and I love it. It does NOT have any kidney bean effect whatsoever like the 5mm version. It was the experience of the 9mm that led me to purchase the 5mm. Unfortunately, the 5mm is not quiet exactly the same as the 9mm. Maybe I should have test-drove it before purchasing.

So I agree with the previous reviewer about this eyepiece.

TeleVue Nagler Type 6 5mm
Seems to keep in with the tradition of the other Naglers with wonderful wide views, nice small light eyepeice so no balancing problems. Makes telescoping a great experience with good clarity and resolution (though not perfect) and good to edge sharpness, very slight colour hence the 9 rating.

A winner. Greg.

TeleVue Nagler Type 6 5mm
Excellent ep in 8" f/6 dob. Provides 243x. Manual tracking is a breeze with the huge fov. Contrast is great. ER is comfortable for me (no glasses). It will kidney bean if your eye is too close to try to take in the full fov which is nearly impossibe. Other wise this is not a problem. Highly recommended.
Thanks
Jason

I too have moved away from the heavier and larger Televue eyepieces to the newer small and light Televues (Type 5's and Type 6's). Each and every one of these new eyepieces afford the very best in contrast and sharpness of any Televue eyepiece type IMHO. Best of all, the type 6's are parfocal with each other, and very close to parfocal with the new type 5 16mm. I prefer the Nagler 5 type 6 over my Radian 5, because the performance is identical, but the field of view is much wider.

TeleVue Nagler Type 6 5mm
I agree. This eyepiece deserves a 10. It is truly great. Really superior contrast and sharpness edge to edge. Very light weight. Eyerelief "adequate" at 12mm for those who do not wear glasses to correct for astigmatism. The 12mm eye relief actually provides contact support and orientation. Very comfortable -- if you don't wear glasses.
