TeleVue Nagler Type 5 16mm
I use this EP to sweep the Milky Way for nebulae and globulars in my 10" f4.8 dob. It's simply a wonderfully wide FOV, superb sharpness in the center field of view where coma is negiglible. Construction and finish is excellent. I really like the lightweight 1.25" format, which helps with balance, and the fact that it is parfocal with the rest of my TV eyepieces.

In a 76mm f6.6 APO refractor, stars are tack sharp to the edge. However, you may have to move your eyeball to see the edge because of the short eyerelief.

Pros:
- superb sharpness and contrast for such a complex eyepiece
- excellent fit and finish, even when made in Taiwan.
- size and parfocal with T5's and T6's makes it ideal
for binoviewing or perserving balance on your dob.

Cons:
- eyerelief is limited and most suited for non-glass wearers.
- Price is a bit steep (in CDN dollars it's almost $600!!)
- convex field lens is awfully close to the bottom of the barrel. Needs to be capped all the time when not in use.

I just love this EP!!

>I use a 16mm Type II on my 16-inch Newtonian. See my web page:- http://www.chess-dictionary-chesmayne.net/Index-Constellations.htm --- for an extensive discussion of my telescope(s) and accessories? I also have the 9mm Type I as well and a 2-inch Tele-Vue coma corrector.
Yes - the 16mm is really excellent - pricy - but worth it due to the 82d wide-field and the flat-field when used with the coma corrector. Now - how much did you say I needed for a Denkmeir binocular viewer!

I think this eyepiece is the hot setup now for binoviewer's. It has the widest TFOV of the 1.25" Naglers. I just used them tonight for the first time with my binoviewer and the Orion XT10 with Siebert 1.3X 2" barlow and Celestron 2x 1.25" barlow. It was a lifetime best view of the moon. They are well worth $640 a pair for a binoviewer.

TeleVue Nagler Type 5 16mm
This little wide-field eyepiece is renowned for being razor sharp, and it lives up to its reputation. It offers a lot of punch in a tiny package. In addition to being a great little wide-field eyepiece, it's capable of delivering great planetary views when Barlowed. Many of my best planetary views have come through the a Barlowed 16T5 rather than a Barlowed 13T6 or other shorter focal length eyepiece -- too many to be a coincidence.

BTW - I don't find the 10mm of eye relief problematic because of the recess and curvature of the eye lens. It's quite comfortable for me.

The fab four (not the Beatles) are the 4 T/5,s the 31,26,20,and16mm Nagler T/5,s.This ep is just as good as the other 3. Eyerelief is just ok if you don,t wear glasses. In a 20" F/5 Obsession the views are great.Better in a fast scope than the 17mmT4.

TeleVue Nagler Type 5 16mm
This is without a doubt my best globular eyepiece. I love looking at M13 in this eyepiece. The only eyepiece that comes close is my Siebert 11mm. But the Nagler has the best contrast and sharpness of any eyepiece I have see in this size. In my fast scope cheap eyepiece are out. A 10 for sure.

TeleVue Nagler Type 5 16mm
This is my wide field eyepiece for a F/5 7" Dob. No coma, sharp to the edge. A 32 Plossl provides a little wider field of view, but much less magnification. The views with the 16mm are clear, crisp, with high definition and clarity. Some have complained about kidney beaning, but I don't wear glasses and hence I don't see the effect. With only 10mm of eye relief these are not for eyeglass wearers. I compared it to the 19mm Panoptic, which provides virtually the same field of view. The 16mm has a slight advantage. I wouldn't trade in a 19mm Panoptic for the 16mm Nagler, but if you are deciding between the two then the Nagler has a slight edge in contrast and clarity probably due to the increase in magnification.

TeleVue Nagler Type 5 16mm
GREAT eyepiece! Incredibly sharp on my 8" f/10 SCT, good contrast. My most-used eyepiece... I also like it with the f/6.3 r/c for a little less mag on open clusters.
Highly reccomended.

TeleVue Nagler Type 5 16mm
Excellent eyepiece. This is perhaps the very best wide field, moderate power eyepiece for the 1.25 inch barrel. At fast focal ratios, this eyepiece has less coma than the much larger and heavier Nagler 17 (at least to my eyes). The only possible drawback is the relatively short 10mm of eye relief. Still, for those who observe without glasses, the 10 mm of eye relief should pose no problem.

TeleVue Nagler Type 5 16mm
Excellent optics as well as convenience of small size and
of parfocalization with the equally terrific new Nagler 9mm
type 6, and the tiny TV Zoom 3-6.
They are even parfocal with my TV Plossl 32mm,
(and probably with other eyepieces as well).
Tested in PortaBall 12.5" with superb Zambutto mirror
and in TV 102.
