TeleVue Nagler Type 2 16mm
Only had a few minutes to check out m51 in a 20" obsession... the eye relief was really tight, and it was prety uncomfortable. I didn't really like it.

TeleVue Nagler Type 2 16mm
After detailed comparison I pick the Type 2 over the
Type 5. Better pinpoint stars and detail in clusters!
No doubt!

TeleVue Nagler Type 2 16mm
A very nice eyepiece with a wide field of view and sharp images. It has the maximum focal length for a 1.25" Nagler design. It is limited mainly by short eye relief: I cannot see most of the field with my eyeglasses and even without eyeglasses my eye lashes continually brush the lens. The early Japanese version had somewhat inferior coatings compared to today's coatings.

TeleVue Nagler Type 2 16mm
This is my introduction to the Nagler wonderland and I got it at an incredible bargain! (It is worth 3X the price I paid for!)I don't know if that's only my sample but this Nagler exhibits considerable flaring and ghosting when viewed at Mars and other bright planets/stars. I suspect that the other voter is correct in that those earlier Japanese Nagler models might have less effective multicoatings compared to recent versions. Other than that the Nagler 16mm Type2 is truly amazing in terms of its huge amount of highly corrected FOV and brilliant contrast. Now I am hooked to the "spacewalk" experience and the proud feeling of owning a classic.

TeleVue Nagler Type 2 16mm
Picked strongly over the 16mm Type 5.
Maybe as easy if not easier to view.
Better pinpoint stars and detail overall.
I don't wear glasses.

TeleVue Nagler Type 2 16mm
I feel it out does the 16mm Type 5. Lengthy comparisons!
17nn T4 would be 3rd!

Very nice eyepiece with a wonderful wide field. Just wish the eye relief was longer.

TeleVue Nagler Type 2 16mm
This is the smallest of the Type 2 family and weighs "only" one pound. I have the 20 and 12 as well and love all of them. Contrast is superb as well as sharpness. No kidney beans, which I hate. As with all Type 2's, this is a collector's item.

TeleVue Nagler Type 2 16mm
Wonderful views. Eye relief is perfectly fine for me, but I don't wear glasses. The wide fields and sharp images are lovely. This is the best eyepiece I've owned. For example, it's not too much bigger than a 22mm Panoptic, but yields an essentially equal actual field with darker skies, more details and wider apparent field of view. This is the biggest Nagler that can work in a 1.25" inch focuser, which is a plus. It's equally at home on a big dob or a small refractor.

TeleVue Nagler Type 2 16mm
Great eyepiece. However, I sold it to fund a 20mm Nagler. BTW, another great eyepiece. As much as I enjoyed the 20mm, I missed the 16mm. I ended up selling the 20mm and getting a 17mm T4, another great eyepiece. I know I sound like a broken record, but they are all very good eyepieces. The 16mm was however, short on eye relief. The 17mm is much better in that regard. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the 16mm, 17mm or 20mm Naglers. Thanks for reading and clear skies!
