I looked through this at someones house a number of times now, I decided to share what I learned about it.

The telescope is rather plain with a whitish finish that is off-color in places and brass accents. It has a small lever that selects the aperature from f 4 to f 22 on it. To what end this changes things, I really don't know.

I tested it with a few EPs (cheap erfles) that he had and found that while the stars looked good near the middle, they turned to little ovals about 1/2 way out to the edge, seriously affecting the visibility of faint stars there.

I changed over to some high quality ones (26 Nagler, 41 Panoptic, and now a 13mm Ethos) and the results were superb. The stars were faint pinpricks right to the edge of the field. It was hard to see faint objects, as we were using his backyard in West Van that has serious light pollution.

Planets and the Moon had little spurious color near the edge. Jupiter had many bands visible and the moons had hints of color to them when it rose high enough. With Venus, there was the faintest hint of magenta when using it a around 250X (about 50X per inch) I could clearly see faint field stars disappear behind the Moon when it was 3/4 full. Earthshine was also visible when the Moon was less than 1/4 full. The seas were visible using it on a cresent. Viewing the Moon was the only place I actually used the built-in diaphram to cut the glare to a reasonable level

I did take several astro photos with using a film camera. The Pleadies showed lots of dust and other nebulosity after just 25 Minutes, and I managed to get an image of Leo I ( a small dwarf galaxy 1/5 of a degree away from Regulus) as a faintish smear with a few stars in it. 1 1/2 hour exposure, hypered Ektachrome 400)

All in all, I would buy it off him if I didn't mind my wife making me sleep in the garage for a year. And no, I won't say who owns this beautiful instrument.
