Tasco Starguide 80GT
This is the Tasco version of the Celestron Nexstar 80GT. I owned this scope for a year.
Plus points:
1. Easy to use and acurate go-to.Good tracking.
2. Solid construction.
3. Excellent for wide field views of star clusters.
4. Excellent value for money - hand controller and tripod included in the price - I bought mine for £329 - not much more than an ETX 70 but with more aperture.
5. Red dot finder very easy to use.

Minus points:
1. Poor battery life when cold.(One night on a set of alkalines)
2. Extreme false colour at anything over 40x on bright objects - a Baader Neodymium filter made little (if any noticeable)difference.
3. No good for high power views. I never saw Cassini's division, even when it was clearly visible in my 4.5" reflector.
4. Separate battery pack - cord gets tangled.
5. Many of the features in the manual don't work (cord wrap feature, two star align etc.).

So over-all a rating of 8 - but definately not recommended for high power views or views of faint objects - buy it if you enjoy wide field views or want to know (as I did) where to point a larger scope. Not an "all-rounder".

Tasco Starguide 80GT
I just picked one up for a niece and nephew for Christmas. Had to try it out first. I got it in a bargain stor in Maine, new in the box, for $199, so I figured I couldn't go wrong for a first scope.

The clarity was surprisingly good. I was able to see a star cluster with relatively good definition. False color on very bright objects. Good, wide field of view, which is what I want for this first scope. Tried an Orion Lanthanum Superwide 8mm eyepiece from my Orion XT10 reflector on it. The eyepiece was about as heavy as the motror control could handle. It didn't stop promply when moving up using the controller. A little over travel due to the weight of the eyepiece. The clarity improved considerablyu over the stock eyepiece, hwever.

I rated it an 8 because it is a good scope for the intended purpose, and the quality was much higher than I had expected.
