TAL Super Plossl 25mm
Wonderful eyepieces!!!
There are several versions in the market.
Said to be a Konig II 3 element design!
One of my real favorites in the ep case!
Made very solid, looking handcrafted Russian; my older one, delivered with my TAL2M has a simple and strong blue-violet MgF2 coating, my newer second one has a yellow-greenish tint MC. The violet-coated one has a slight yellow tint held against a white paper (of course, due to the violet coatings). Fieldstop is varying from 24 to 26.5mm in my two specimen. So the AFOV goes from 55-60°. In faster telescopes (f/5), the edge of the field becomes softer and the astigmatism grows to about one fourth from the edge. Contrast is wonderful, so is the throughput (transmission) and the eyerelief. You can use spare eyecups on, as I do (the round kind you get from Edmund Optics or from Orion. Or you can make cups from colored foam rubber from a tinker shop.)
Very nice and light (85grs) eyepiece.

btw:
the old TAL 15mm Kellner is a very special one. It has short eyerelief, but if you are looking closely, it is performing so much better than any Taiwan or China standard 15mm plossl I know. And I know many! The field of view is large, from stopping drift time it's around 15,3mm fieldstop diameter. This means, it (mine 15mm, I know only this one) has really 58 degree apparant Field of View!! And the coatings are simple, but good! I love it too, because this was my globular-cluster killer (barlowed with factor 3x) with my TAL2M in the first time. Without barlow, it is ideal to show fine views of galaxies due to high transmission! Filterthreads on both, the 25mm TAL and the 15mm TAL Kellner, are sucking with Astronomik and Lumicon UHC and OIII.

Clear Skies to you all,
Randolf from Germany!

TAL Super Plossl 25mm
This eyepiece was quite sharp across the FOV and coatings are good. In direct comparison to a Meade 26mm SP however, it showed a browner background; not sure if this is related to light scattering or the higher barium content in Russian glass. Anyways, a very good value for the money, but sky background could be darker.

TAL Super Plossl 25mm
Having tried a generic plossl , a zeiss microscope eyepiece, a zeiss konig eyepiece, the tal super plossl kicks ass in all kinds of way, sharp to the edge, contrasty, I'm not sure if the televue plossl could beat it (the views told a story that it could not be beat)...I just have an issue with the over-generous eye-relief (20 some odd mm) and the accompanying black out/kidneybean affect..

TAL Super Plossl 25mm
A incredable value for the money. Eye relief is just about
perfect, sharp to the edge and barlows exceptionally well.
In my opinion this is the best eyepiece value available
today.

Excellent eyepiece and unbelievable value, if Televue sold this eyepiece no doubt the price would be quadrupled. I have 2 for a binoviewer and they work superbly. The image does get soft at the very edge, but the vast majority of the field is sharp and contrasty.

I got this with my TAL Telescope and I am very satisfied. This is my most often used eyepiece because its very suitable for wide field views, contrast and brightness is good, so you can easily find nebulae and other faint objects.
The moon looks great! The eyelens is slightly raised so its easy to damage the coatings or the lens. Do yourself a favour and add an eyecup (even a selfmade helps to protect, beside this it helps against straylight!). I can't imagine that there is any 1.25" EP with comparable performance and I think the FOV is the biggest you can get throught 1.25" focusers. I allready got another one as
spare (I bought a complete Set of 3 TAL EPs including this gem for Special Sales Price 49.95$!!!)

Did I already mention that the moon looks fantastic through this eyepiece?

Missing eyecup -1 so it's a 9.

The image quality is excellent. As a spectacle wearer I just love the lense.
No eye cup however...minor fault.
I rate it a 9 ...excellent value for money.
Cheers Harry
