Description: | This Tak newtonian exhibits the same high build quality as the Tak Fluorites. A finely finished white tube with substantial end rings finished in Takahashi lime green. The focuser is extremely solid and smooth, like the refractor focusers. A three vane fully adjustable spider supports a 40mm secondary.
The scope is an f/6. My MT130 includes a field flattener/corrector thatt can be inserted between the eyepiece holder and the focuser to correct the inherent coma of a parabola and flatten the field. Using this corrector increases the focal ratio to f/8. Takahashi claims that this provides "refractor like" images. Also available is a corrector/reducer that reduces the focal ratio to f/4.7 for wide field viewing and photography. Star testing reveals correction to at least 1/8 wave peak-to-valley with no evidence of astigmatism or coma on axis and very little if any coma off-axis with the corrector. Views of the double cluster in Perseus reveal pinpoint star images to the edge of the field in a plain vanilla, 25mm Kellner eyepiece. Planetary views are better than all but the finest 4" refractors. Direct comparison with a Tak fs102 shows that the MT130 performs just slightly - VERY SLIGHTLY - below the FS102 on both planetary and deep sky. I highly recommend this high quality newtonian. |
