Description:This Tak newtonian exhibits the same high build quality as the Tak Fluorites. A finely finished white tube with substantial end rings finished in Takahashi lime green. The focuser is extremely solid and smooth, like the refractor focusers. A three vane fully adjustable spider supports a 40mm secondary.

The scope is an f/6. My MT130 includes a field flattener/corrector thatt can be inserted between the eyepiece holder and the focuser to correct the inherent coma of a parabola and flatten the field. Using this corrector increases the focal ratio to f/8. Takahashi claims that this provides "refractor like" images. Also available is a corrector/reducer that reduces the focal ratio to f/4.7 for wide field viewing and photography. Star testing reveals correction to at least 1/8 wave peak-to-valley with no evidence of astigmatism or coma on axis and very little if any coma off-axis with the corrector. Views of the double cluster in Perseus reveal pinpoint star images to the edge of the field in a plain vanilla, 25mm Kellner eyepiece. Planetary views are better than all but the finest 4" refractors. Direct comparison with a Tak fs102 shows that the MT130 performs just slightly - VERY SLIGHTLY - below the FS102 on both planetary and deep sky. I highly recommend this high quality newtonian.

Takahashi MT-130
This is Takahashi’s best-kept secret. It will hold its own with any APO refractor under 102mm that I’ve used in 35 plus years of astronomy. (I would like to say any refractor its size or smaller, but up against an FS-102’s incredible contrast it just lost out by a narrow margin). It’s small for a newt and deceptively simple in appearance, so you have to forgive the poor unsuspecting “experts” who discount it on sight and then look up slack jawed muttering “What Tak is this?” after a look through the finder.
Solidly built, easy to collimate, and optically incredible. I’m going to own this scope for a very long time.

Takahashi MT-130
For what you pay for, you'd be forgiven for thinking that Takahashi had got a digit wrong somewhere.

This is an absolutely top-class newtonian at an incredibly low cost.

Now those who don't have deep pockets can finally know what it's like to be an AP owner. The Tak 130MT is THAT good.

I agree, the MT130 is a great little scope sartest nere
perfect contrast great I got mine real cheap what more
can you say

Takahashi MT-130
I mounted my MT130 on a super polaris mt. Needs extra counterweights. Steady views with Celestron vibration suppression pads. Views of Saturn were magnificent. Highest contrast ever seen in a Newtonian. Super rugged and smooth focuser. All in all, a typical takahashi high quality scope and a terrific value.
