Takahashi LE-ED 5mm
A terrific high power eyepiece. It is well suited for planetary and lunar viewing. I have used it often on my 4" apo and the images are clean and crisp. The color is well corrected and the images are sharp right to the edge. Best of all, it is a comfortable eyepiece to use because it has reasonable eye relief. Altogether, a well-made and very user-friendly EP. I recommend it.

A best buy! My most used eyepiece for the latest Mars opposition. Works well with the TV 1.8x barlow on those really exceptional nights. One very experienced observer recently retired from Abrams Planetarium commented that the combination of this eyepiece with my 102mm Apo-refractor was the best view of Mars he had ever seen! Color rendition, sharpness, contrast, and ease of use are first rate.

Slight ghosting on Jupiter (but still far less than a Radian). Sharp, edge to edge. Great contrast and accurate color in both my Newtonian and my Refractor. Solidly made and very comfortable to use

I recently tried this eyepiece against my 5mm Radian. I ended up selling the Radian and bought the 5mm Takahashi (also sold my 8mm Radian for the 7.5mm Tak). Other than losing a bit of eye relief and field of view I gained sharpness and contrast. No false color at the edge of the fov like with the Radian either, nor is eye placement as critical.
Jupiters disk was much whiter with the Takahashi than the Radian, and I have never seen so much detail in and around the GRS. I am convinced that these are some of the finest planetary eyepieces currently available. In spite of having "only" 10mm of eye relief, I still find this an extremely comfortable eyepiece to use, but I do not need glasses when observing.
I still think the Radians are outstanding eyepieces, I just think the Taks are a notch above.

I wanted to wait until Jupiter and Saturn came back up in the evenings to test out this eyepiece, but I've already confirmed it's excellent performance on Uranus, Neptune, the moon, and close double stars!

I get 244x on my 8" f/6 with the Tak LE 5mm. Both Uranus and Neptune had perfectly circular disks against the inky blackness of space. Uranus was a beautiful pale green color and Neptune a stunningly deep blue. The moon is jaw-droppingly awesome along the terminator with this eyepiece! No false color was seen.

Stars are pinpoints to the edge of the field, which is a bit wider than a Plossl. The Double Double is beautiful, totally black between the components of each one, and at 244x they're pretty far apart. I haven't tried splitting Antares yet with this one, but that's next!

Just by holding this eyepiece you can feel the quality workmanship. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, ONE OF THE BEST PLANETARY EYEPIECES AROUND! Just wait for good seeing and make sure your scope's cooled down, then get prepared to be stunned.

This is the best Eyepiece. The contrast and the quality image is out of this world. I sell my UWA 6.7mm Meade and I didnt want the Nagler 7mm T6, the TAK is better.

Its a bargain.

Simply the best 5 mm eyepiece ever. Period.

And you can buy two LE´s for the price of a Radian. Radians are great, but even if price was not a point, I would still prefer LE´s.

A wonderful eyepiece in my FS128. I bought it with the intent of improving upon my 5mm radian - and I haven't been disappointed. Despite the smaller FOV it's much easier (for me) to acquire and hold bright objects. It's sharp right across the field and I haven't noticed any ghosting yet when used on the moon (my main interest). I often used to avoid slipping the 5mm radian in, since I usually felt I ought to be rebalancing the 'scope. No such problems with the LE. Very good value, very pleased with it.

Have had this eyepiece for some time now and feel I can write an accurate assessment at this point.

This is a wonderful eyepiece, flat field, excellent light through put, excellent contrast. I did notice slight ghosting when viewing Jupiter and the field surrounding Jupiter was not as black as in my 5mm U.O Ortho. The Ortho was also a tad sharper (very slight). Eye relief was also very comfortable (which is why I got the eyepiece - comfortable high power deep sky viewing).

Overall the TaK is really an excellent eyepiece and the build quality is superb. I've owned the 12mm as well and it was just as good. If you don't desire widefield designs, a set of Tak LE's would be a hard set of eyepieces to compete with for overall performance quality.
