With the hhs audubon roofs, swift has created a wonderful value in a high quality, high peformance roof prism binocular. they are very well made (manufactured in japan) and neatly finished, and offer smooth, even mechanics in focusing. The roof audubons handle very well, as they are light (23.4 oz.), compact (under 6" in hgt.), and balanced. the supplied leather-like soft case, wide woven neck strap, and objective lense covers (which fit over the barrel ends), are all excellent. the optics of the audubon roofs are superb, providing extremely sharp views defined by great contrast, fine color rendition, and a wide field of view. Astronomically, these swifts capture all the usual objects one would seek with any high quality roof in the 8x42 range, with the inherent roof vs. porro drawback of diminished brightness. i have three relatively small criticisms of the audubon roofs, which i will relate in order from the most minor. 1: the barrels of the audubons are covered in two distict sections by two different textured rubber surfaces. 2: the plastic eyecups are pull-out rather than twist-up. 3: the view is soft at the edges, in that, roughly, the outside 15% of the fov is not able to be fully resolved. inconclusion, the swift hhs 8.5x44 audubon roof prism binoculars are outstanding. the view in the center of the fov is marvelous, the construction is first rate, and they are water/ fog proof. truly, a great all-around roof prism glass that clearly rivals others costing hundreds more. thank you H.H.Swift. C.W.

spent some time with swift tech rep on phone regarding a different swift product and this binocular came up in discussion. rep was very positive about this binocular as one that was very durable and they never had collimation problems (which is what my call was about for a porro bino).

I concur with the first review. At $300 or so on the street, these are a terrific buy. I compared them closely to my Nikon Venturer 8x32 and found: 1) the Nikon snapped into focus better, 2) the view was more pleasing thru the Swift because of the extra magnification and wider field of view, 3) the Swift resolved more at dusk, 4) the Nikon was more compact and had a tad better build quality. However, the Nikon cost double.
The Swift are much bang per buck and a better value.
