Surplus Shed Plossl 50mm
The quality of the Surplus Shed optics was pretty good when they were Selling the RINIs. Now that they are selling there own eyepieces, I have found the quality has gone way down. They did not bother to answer emails, when problems arose with what I received . Perhaps an oversight. I no longer recommend them.

I use this eyepiece in my 10" f/5 dobsonian. The images are sharp and clear virtually all the way to the edge. Good wide views. I cannot detect any coma (i.e., 'seagulls'). The eyerelief is quite long - 40mm. People who have used this eyepiece with glasses said that it worked very well. There are some blackout zones if you get too close or move around too much, but this ceases to be a problem once you get familiar with using the eyepiece. Because the top lense is recessed in the barrel, the rubber on top acts as a bit of an eyecup to guide your eye to the best position. Overall, I am very pleased. I would rate it a 9 due to affordability and quality (hey, this hunk of glass is really quite good), but because of the flecks of dust on the bottom and top lenses I give it an 8. The dirt had to be wiped off with a cleaning cloth. I think that this is the perfect budget 2 incher. -Dave
