I got this eyepiece for for my homebuilt 6" F/8 Dob to use on planets with a barlow. When it arrived, luckily Saturn was overhead in full view. I was a little disappointed in the view when I first peered into it. It wasn't what I was expecting, and seemed a bit washed out color-wise. It did barlow up quite well, but there seemed to be a little bit of ghosting in the image. Overall, it seemed to be OK, as well as reasonably expected for a $19.95 (on sale) eyepiece. Then I decided to turn it to something other than a planet, just to see how it did. The Orion Nebula was visible overhead, and was a tempting target. I was pleasantly shocked. What this eyepiece seemed to lack on the planetary side was more than made up for as a budget mid-power deep sky eyepiece. This thing had great contrast and literally made the various loops and tendrils of the Orion Nebula stand out in a manner I didn't think capable in my scope with it's mail order Orion mirror. The image is nice and flat and sharp from edge to edge. It seems a very capable eyepiece for this type of observing, at least in my scope. It seems to literally suck the faint fuzzies out of the blackness. Though not on a par with more expensive types, it seems every bit as good as my Orion Sirius Plossls for this type of observing.

If you are on a limited budget, this eyepiece may work out for you. Don't expect Nagler quality for $20 dollars though. For a beater dob' like I have, it's not a bad deal.

A little word about SurplusShed. I have been purchasing optics from them for quite some time. I used to make a lot of my own eyepieces with their parts. Some of their products are quite good, others are not. This eyepiece seems to be fairly decent, but I recently purchased one of their 6.5mm wide angles that was seriously BAD in my scope. Fuzzy, mushy faint images all the way. It was even dirty, with the optics messed up by optical grease. I had to take it apart and clean it. Their "house brand" quality is really hit or miss, and lately it seems to have gone down a notch. Buyer beware. Thoroughly research whatever type eyepiece you plan to purchase from them. Too bad they don't carry the Paul Rini's any more.

Their line of generic "professionally" made Plossls seem to be of OK, but I only have one of them and don't know much about the others.
