Nicely built scope. Shows quite a bit of false color on brighter objects, but of course it is an achromat. I agree with the earlier comment that it is a bit heavy for it's aperture.

You gotta love this telescope. Mechanically it is a joy to use. The tube, dew shield, and cap are made of thick aluminum which has a solid, well built look and feel. Cosmetically this is a top quality telescope. Optically, it is also a winner. Large enough to see planets and bright objects (like M42). Small enough to be portable, easy to set up, and easy to move about.

In comparison to the AT1010, the 80/9D has a little less color (so it's better at high power viewing of planets). It is heavier and larger than the AT1010, however, so it is a little bulky to use as a spotting scope for daytime use and a little heavy for a tripod.

I got the last of the non-retractable shield models, this is one fine little 80mm Acro. I use it as a spotter on my C-14, and with a 41 Panoptic it has a 3.7 degree field, not as wide as the 80 wide fields but much better contrast, the color was
no where as bad as I was prepaired for, again a great value
in a 80mm Acro. refractor, Mr. Maris, you can be proud of this
baby.
