Starsplitter APO Eater 8 F8
Let's be realistic about "APO Eaters". When recreational astronomers want to talk up their scope's optics, they always say, "it's just like looking through an APO refractor". APOs are the benchmark. NO-ONE says "my scope as good as an excellent Dobsonian" because people would laugh. And that's all the "APO eater" is - just an excellent Dobsonian. So buy one by all means and kid yourself that the good images are great , that the diffraction spikes aren't there, and the inability to track doesn't matter. Then it will be "just like an APO refractor".

Sadly, Starsplitter no longer offers the Zambuto optics in the "Tube" series. Their least-expensive scope with a Zambuto mirror is the 8" Compact Truss, at $1995.

Hey!, add superb Zambuto perfect optics (1/20 wave PTV at least), to long focal lenght and downsize secondary, with superb bafled tube, with a Tech 2000 Dob Driver or Equatorial Plataform, and a 3mm Radian or 5mm Tak Ep and... Voilá! You're going to eat an Apo. like FS 102, 128, Traveller, 130 EDF, Televue ....(Do you have $20.000 for a 8" apo?)

good scope, but ... arent all f/8 8" newts with decent optics
good! To assert this scope is an "apo eater" is ludicrous.
I have an John Hall 6" f/10 newt and and 8" f/10 (Hall) ...
so these must be "Starslitter APO Eater EATERS"! I get a little
disappointed when manufacturers stoop to "Big n Tasty Meal"@.
APO eater indeed!
