Sailor Moon R-The Movie
Sailor Moon R: Promise of the Rose review

(Remember, if this review is helpful or well-written, please give me a good rating (down below)! Thanks for your support! *^__^)

Animation:
I want to grade this higher... But it just doesn't deserve it. The animation is on par for the Sailor Moon series as a whole, but you can't go in expecting Sailor Moon SuperS quality here and since a movie is a self-contained story, we have a lot more character development to get across than actual action, and it shows all throughout the movie.

Plot:
Definitely a hard one to grade. While the storyline itself is shallow due to the short nature of the movie, at least Fiore is an interesting character with an interesting past, and the character relations are enough of a storyline-driving point that you want to watch.

Humor:
Here's the problem I have with all of the Sailor Moon movies: Sailor Moon is usually one of the funniest series I've ever seen, very witty or crazy (or sometimes both).
But that's when it's not introducing a new villain, fighting off minor enemies, and dealing with the new villain all in the time span of what would normally be three episodes. When you have to do all that, there's really very little time for humor, and you can see that in this movie: The only humor around is at the very beginning.

Soundtrack:
Standard Sailor Moon fare, but I'm giving extra points because both "Moon Revenge" and "The Power of Love" are good songs. In fact, I actually think "The Power of Love" is better for the scene, an honor that I don't give to any other original dub song in the entire series.
And if you don't know what "standard Sailor Moon fare is," what it comes down to is fairly basic, but functional music. Still, I prefer the music of the TV show, if only because you have to hear it more often and it's catchier.

Overall:
Not a bad movie, but not the best. If you want an introduction to Sailor Moon, this shouldn't be it, and if you want to see a Sailor Moon movie, this probably shouldn't be the first on your list.
Nonetheless, it's nowhere near bad or anything, and I still recommend it... It's just not a top priority, and it shouldn't be unless you're a big Sailor Moon fan (like me).

Sailor Moon R-The Movie
I would give this poor excuse for an anime a two at most, if only because the animation was slightly better than the series (Yes, they actually SHADED!) and Darien put on his Prince Darien outfit, which kicks the H@#% out of his tuxedo.
For one, the whole doom tree series wasn't even written by Rumiko, the SM creator. For two, the animation, the improved from the series, was still terrible, especially in comparrison to some of the awesome feats of animation to be found nowadays.
For threee, the music was horrible... well, at least, in the American version. I have the japanese soundtrack for the movie, and, other than the corny changing music, it really kicks! The moonlight Symohany orchestra does an excellent job of bringing the scenes to life, which seems almost an impossible task, seeing as how nothing of interest happens. BUT, in the American movie, they insisted on having another sucky english song sung by the same small voiced girl who sings all of the songs. They, however, did have one song from the jap soundtrack, but why stop there? WHY?! The american music is horrible, why don't they get that through their heads?
And cmon, I think we all know that Chibi Usa is just annoying. She's someone everyone can hate, and that is her only purpose for the fans, someone to yell at.
And, of course, I could go into the millions of reasons why that whole battle in space is impossible, and makes no sense, but I don't thonk you need me to do that.

Sailor Moon R-The Movie
I'm very impressed with this movie. Not only that Pioneer kept the character designs and the same and polished them up, the dubbing has vastly improved. These guys did a great job on it.

Sailor Moon R-The Movie
If you're going to give this a rating of 2, at least watch the Japanese version, not the dub. It doesn't really qualify as a great anime, but you need to watch the original version to have a fair assessment of the movie.

A couple more things for clarification:

- In the R Movie we don't have a "Doom Tree."
- Bishoujo Senshi Sailormoon project was done by Takeuchi Naoko, not Takahashi Rumiko (Ranma 1/2, Maison Ikkoku, One Pound Gospel).
