I have used this eyepiece on my C9.25 and I saw no evidence of ghosting while observing Jupiter and Saturn. Where I really thought this eyepiece really performed was on M42. I did a comparison between two of these eyepieces and the better of a pair of 12mm Type 2 Naglers that I own. I found the detail and contrast on M42 with either Gary Russell eyepiece matched that of my 12mm Nagler. The FOV on the Nagler was of course much wider, but the overall performance on the object in the center of the eyepiece was the same.

The reason I have two of these eyepieces is because I have a Sieberts 45mm Elite 2" binoviewer.

It's not bad for the price, but views are not as good as through a 25 mm
University Optics 2" with a barlow (which works out to 12.5 mm). DSOs seem
a tad dimmer.

Mr. Russell said in an email that this eyepiece is not designed for planetary,
and boy he wasn't kidding. The ghosting is insane, not minor. Jupiter and
Saturn are really tough to look at in this eyepiece. I have used it on a C8,
C9.25, and C14.

It is a well constructed eyepiece and the delrin makes for a lightness that I wish others manufacturers would emulate.

Nonetheless, my overall view is that this is a "training" 2" eyepiece to break yourself in to the joys of 2" viewing. Buy it, use it, and when you get a chance, trade up. A 2" UO MK-70 2" barlowed comes in at $190 + 90 for the barlow which makes for $280 versus $80 for the Russell, though of course you can do other things with the barlow. Is the UO 3 times as good? Well, probably not, you ahve to pay higher prices for performance "at the margin."

But when all is said and done I can't say this eyepiece performs as well as some that command higher prices.

WOW! WHAT A VIEW ON MARS IN MY 12.5" F4.8 DOB. CONTRAST WAS AS GOOD AS IVE SEEN IN A EYEPIECE OF THIS FL.

A very good eyepiece--sharp almost to edge of FOV. Deceptively light in
weight, due to the Delrin construction. This was my first Russell ep--I've
ordered more based on my experience with the 11mm SWA!
