Rurouni Kenshin: The Movie
This movie is a cross between the OAVs and the TV series. It basically is an extension of the TV series (same characters) but has lots of flashbacks to Kenshin's past.

The overall plot is simplistic and more inline with the TV series style of writing. The animation also follows the TV series, using abundant recycling to the point of being a bit nauseating.

Still...It is Kenshin we're talking about and we do get a few more insights into his past.

I watched part of it again and couldn't quite get through it on the first try because the animation bugs me so much. If you like the animation of the TV series, then it probably won't bug you. But in comparison with the OVA, the animation is extremely disappointing considering this is a movie. They use very cheesy animation effect and cuts instead of actually animating many sequences. The other related point is the choreography which IMO, is really terrible (again, it's from the TV series). There's way too much flying around. These guys aren't Hong Kong kung-fu martial artists, they're swordsmen and samurai!!! Yet scene after scene we see them jumping about 50 ft. in the air or hopping over houses with no problem. Practically all the "moves" seem to involve something aerial. And what's up with the delayed reaction cutting scenes? These are scenese where the characters sit squatting for 10 seconds waiting to see what the hell happend, and about 1 minute later, the cut finally "appears". Once is fine, but twice in a span of 10 minutes is boring.

Anyway, enough of the rant. If you're a fan of the OVA, I would avoid the movie. If you like the TV series, I'd give it a try.

Rurouni Kenshin: The Movie
Great! Kenshin and the other characters are so kawaii! But the Battousai/Gentatsu scene is pretty annoying. I got fed-up after the fifth flashback. Anyway, any RK fan will love it!

Again, it makes you think about stuff a lot... I liked the animation. That Gentatsu/Battousai scene did get repetitive. The fight scenes were awesome.

Rurouni Kenshin: The Movie
A decent Rurouni Kenshin movie. Although the OAV's are a much better cinematic experience, the film was interesting to say the least, and it's pretty fun to see Saitoh do his gatotsu on some random terrorist jerks...makes me feel all warm and tingly inside. But alot of the movie is spent on a repetitive flashback where Kenshin slices Hitokiri Gentatsu in half, and i mean ALOT of repeats...it gets REALLY tiresome, not to mention that the movie was done by a different studio, so the new characters look just plain awkward, especially since all of the movie-only characters were designed not by Watsuki Nobuhiro, but by some other guy. Toki, for example is basically Kaoru with REALLY DROOPY eyes. Looks like she needs some caffeine or something. Decent film though, but the OAVs and series are significantly better.

Rurouni Kenshin: The Movie
Tecnically, this film was very well done. The art was good, the music was beautiful and the plot was pretty solid. My only problem was that the film was a rather dry. The story and action wasn't done with the usual flair and style that the series or OVA's had, it was rather boring. I also didn't like how the other characters didn't get much screen time or development. What probably bothered me the most was that they played back the same flashback SEVEN times, which got annoying after a while. Despite its flaws, the film was decent and any kenshin fan will like it.

Rurouni Kenshin: The Movie
Definitely darker than the series (much more death, for one thing), but beautifully animated. Not as good as the Kyoto story arc, but much better than filler episodes of the series. ^_^x
