Porco Rosso
I hate Miyazaki(my best: Mamoru Oshii,it is not the same thing), but Mononoke and Porco Rosso are great! This is poetry!

Porco Rosso
Just saw this movie for the first time at a Miyazaki film festival here in town recently. As a commercial airline pilot with a passion for anime, I really appreciated the fanatical attention to detail in the rendition of the real and semi-fictitious seaplanes depicted in the movie. I was also astonished at the accuracy of the engine sounds, especially the correctly rendered differences in the tonal qualities between air-cooled and liquid-cooled engines. Miyazaki's love of aviation really shows!

Porco Rosso
An exquisit film, filled with humor, atmosphere and love of flying. As
always, Miyazaki loves strong women, and the young tomboy engineer who
rebuilds Marco's plane for the big duel with Curtis is one of his best.
And Marco himself, half pig, half man, is Miyazaki's most complex and
facinating character, a man (uh, pig) of honor in a world where honor
is sometimes in short supply. This will be coming out from Disney in the
next year or so, but fansubbed versions can still be found. Get one
now and hear it as Miyazaki intended. It has, among other pleasures,
the best soundtrack of any of his movies.

Porco Rosso
I am not a fan of Miyazaki's work but this one I am singularly fond of. A gentle, mostly quiet tale of a middle-age...pig. If some of Miyazaki's film were meant to be epics or comedic nursary stories, Porco Rosso stands out as a gentle, more "mature" tale which unfortunately didn't do too well compared to the Totoros and Naussicas. I can understand why Porco Rosso failed to attract the usual audience: No cute magical animals! Not a sweeping fantasy! (the "turning into pig" bit doesn't count) Not even a tearjerker! In a nutshell, if those are the qualities you want in a Miyazaki film, then this one just might bore you. But if you don't mind trying something different, give Porco Rosso a shot. It still has a somber message in it if that's your thing...

Porco Rosso
This is my favorite film by Miyazaki. You may ask "what about Mononoke Hime?" but even though Mononoke Hime was a powerful film and takes a very close second to Porco Rosso, Porco Rosso appealed to me as a beautifully escapist and romantic film. Set in the unlikely setting of the Adriatic during the 20's, this film is just filled to the brim with atmosphere and the characters are very well developed. All of this is due to Miyazaki's close attention to detail for both art and story.

Porco Rosso
Excellent. A Miyazaki classic. If you like his other movies you will probably like this one too. Parts of it are funny and parts of it are left mysterious at the end. The movie really hints at a world much broader than the locales where the scenes take place. The airplanes are fantastic, realistic for the time period but still whimsical. Worth every minute and then some.
