Pokemon review

(Remember, if this review is helpful or well-written, please give me a good rating (down below)! Thanks for your support! *^__^)

And apologies to everyone for using "Pokemon" without the accented E, but for some reason it seems to keep turning into a different symbol when I actually post the review. o_O

Animation:
A hard one to grade if for no other reason than that there's a difference between the Japanese and English versions. Still, with a show that's based on monster battling, the battles are pretty well-animated. Not standout, but solid enough.

Plot:
No.
The plot could be summed up in a few words, with something to the effect of "Go to gyms, beat the gym leaders in a battle, get badges, go to league with badges, compete for championship."
That's not, however, to say that there isn't an underlying message in this show. It tells a lot about life's lessons and such...
The problem is continuity. Those little lessons that the characters pick up at the end of every (or at least the majority of every) episode are rarely, if ever, referenced again, and it seems a wasted effort to promote the companionship between people and Pokemon in one new way every episode when that new way is never looked at again.
...Actually, wait, I take that back. By the time they got to Johto, I really thought I would be watching the show for a long time. The animation seemed better than before and the stories were much more revised than the first season... But that was the problem. The Johto season felt a lot like it was just a rehash of the first season with some new Pokemon introduced.
So the plot itself is generally either really repetitive or simply suffers from no continuity.
However, I do like Team Rocket. They practically carry the show and together, they're the single best example I can think of for showing that "bad guys" aren't necessarily all that bad. Usually, if anime is trying to show its villains as "not THAT evil," it just portrays them as misguided or deranged, but not so with Team Rocket. Jessie and James, or Musashi and Kojiro, are just trying to make a living like anyone else. The tragic thing is that even when they're not doing anything wrong, something ends up screwing up their plans to get rich the normal way.
The very, very best episodes Pokemon has to offer are focused on Team Rocket, from the Eevee brothers episode to the Drowzee hypnosis (not the Hypno one, the Drowzee) episode with Butch and Cassidy to even the Meowth/Nyasu's past episode. If the show kept up the storyline quality shown by those three episodes, this would be one heck of a show to watch... But when you're producing hundreds and hundreds of episodes, there ends up being a whole lot of filler. It's really a shame that the writers and animators probably just had to crank out episodes so fast to satisfy the demand that they ended up losing quality along the way.

Humor:
It's there, but you would think that there would be a lot more humor in a kids' anime than there is here. Actually, the show is probably more serious than it is funny.
As for the jokes themselves, a lot of them fall flat... If only because it's a kids' anime and they're restricted as to what, exactly, they can say. It might be funnier in the Japanese version, though.

Soundtrack:
Now this part is better than you might expect. Actually, I really enjoyed the music of the show and I enjoyed every single song in the Japanese and the English version.
And unlike some anime (Dragonball Z, El Hazard), the music here actually adds to the show. Although the pieces aren't exactly orchestrated, the tunes themselves are good enough to somehow carry emotion with them. I especially love the opening themes in every incarnation (the first Japanese opening, first English, Japanese Johto theme, English Johto theme, Spanish Johto theme, French Johto theme, first season French opening, first season Italian opening, fourth English opening... everything except the second English opening) and that march-type theme they play for practically every episode, usually at the beginning or end. Also good is the "Red/Blue gym battle" theme, but unless you played the games, you probably won't know which battle theme I'm referring to.

Overall:
I don't hate this show as much as this review has probably made you think so far!
Actually, just the opposite. I like Pokemon and think it's a great show for watching whenever. It's hard to watch most episodes that I've already seen, but I can tune in to any episode I haven't seen at any time (and there are probably 30 of them) and watch it. Since there's no storyline continuity, after all, you can pick it up at any time.
The problem with Pokemon is that you really shouldn't buy it. Aside from the fact that you don't get the Japanese audio track on the DVDs, the problem with Pokemon is that you don't really want to bother watching the episodes in order because they don't usually need to be. It seems tedious to just watch the show straight out, whereas suddenly flipping over to it when you have nothing else to watch isn't a bad move.
Recommended whenever you need something to watch, but it's definitely not a top pick to start a huge video collection with... Sort of like Dragonball Z, except Pokemon's episodes are usually fairly self-contained, which is better if you're only watching one or two episodes.

Pokemon
Not to bad set more for the younger crowd. Although others beleive it I don't see the love others think there is between Ash and Misty they seem to see each other as buddies and that's it.

Pokemon
I've decided to edit this post since I was looking back and noticed how simplistic I wrote in it. I'd rather give a much better review than what I had previously, since I really like Pokemon. So off to writing more I go. ^_^

P.S. For the shear fun of it, I'm going to be refering to the characters by thier Japanese names. If you don't know them, here is a list of the main characters:

Satoshi= Ash
Kasumi= Misty
Takeshi= Brock
Musashi= Jesse
Kojiro= James

(I'll use the american names for the Pokemon though)

Summary: In the world of Pokemon, when a kid turns 10 years old, he/she gets the decision to either become a pokemon (which stands for pocket monsters) trainer, or not. Our hero Satoshi dreams of becoming the worlds greatest pokemon master!!! But he wakes up late and is to late to get the typical three starter pokemon, so he gets left with an electric type pokemon named Pikachu, which doesn't like him so much at first. After getting to know Satoshi, Pikachu and him become the best of friends. We the veiwer follow these two and thier other friends water pokemon trainer Kasumi, and rock pokemon gym leader/ wannwbe Breeder Takeshi, as they travel around the worlds in search of battles and pokmon. Making new friends, learning new morals, and becoming one step closer to thier dreams.

Animation: Pokemon isn't the finest in the lot when it comes to art and animation. It actually average at best. But that doesn't mean it isn't bad at all. The artwork is cute, and happy, and fun to look at. Plus I must commend to people work work on this show for being to make over 200 unique looking characters without going to stale, that takes some huge amount of creativity. Not to mention all the different Pokemon out there, it takes talent to make so many unique looking creatures. Plus it gets much better as it goes along. You can see a huge difference between the very firts episode and the lastest episodes out now. Overall not bad animation, but its not something to write home about.

Plot: You may hear alot of people say "what plot?" about Pokemon. Pokemon's plot isn't jaw droppingly amazing, nor is it progressing in a very quick pace..... some say it not progressing at all. Pokemon's plot is very simplistic, and generally goes like this... Satoshi and co. meet a character of the day and thier pokmon, who happens to have a problem, so they help character of the day, and Team Rocket shows up and tries to steal Pikachu or pokemon of the day, they are stopped and then we end the episode with Satoshi and co. waving good-bye to character and pokemon of the day. It rarely strays from that line. But even with it being like that, the plot is still rather cute, buts its not the shows main attraction by far. If anything, its the characters that make the show, and are main characters get along so humurously, they make the show good.

Humor: This is really what makes Pokemon such a hoot to watch. Though to enjoy the humor, you need to have a particular taste in humor to watch pokemon and laugh. Its humor ranges from painful puns, to silly slapstick, but only once has it ever had a visible ecchi scene and that episode was banned in America, so no need to worry. The jokes can either be just plain lame, or they can make you burst a gut. Either way, since Pokemon is a comedy, you shouldn't hav to worry about not laughing at least twice while you watch it. I find this series very funny, so my opinion of the humor in this series is very high, but I just have that taste in innocent humor.

Sound Track: Pokemon, being a world wide popular show, has music in almost every language, so thiers plenty of diversity in your choice of music. I'll be talking about both the English and Japanese sound Track though, since those are the only one I've heard. The English music is pretty good, but rather dependent on taste again. It music genre in English are usually pop, polka, and rap... or at least thats what I can remember hearing for pokemon. It not bad music, but it does have some stale songs here and there, in my personal opinion, the songs openings for in English Pokemon aren't that grand. Japanese openings however, seem to have gotten better since the beginning. I really like some of the songs in the Japanese version, to the point of calling them favorites. It has a wide variety of songs either way, both English and Japanese have sad and happy songs for whichever mood. I like the music, and thats really that.

Overall: This is a decent kids show. Its fun, funny, cute, and mildly entertaining. You don't have to be a kid to like this show (no matter what anyone says), you just have to like anything in the previous sentence. I recemend it to anyone really, especially since its such long and popular show. I say see it just to say you did, if your not interested in watching it for the cutness and humor.

Pokemon
The world and characters of Pokemon are well thought out. It's so great that it seems like other shows copy it.

ANIMATION:
My favorite thing to watch is the way the battles are animated with all the detail and how it's creatively put together (one time I spent a half an hour staring at a battle scene on the computer). While you flip through channels, it's easy to recognize Pokemon because of the bright (and relaxing) colors. The funniest thing about the animation is the way the human characters' mouths move when they talk. Some of the walking scenes are also something to laugh about.

PLOT:
The plots are usually simple, but the morals are good. I think it actually does promote friendship to young people.

HUMOR:
The worst part is the lameness of jokes and humor scenes, but it's still fun to laugh at how corny some of the humor is.

SOUNDTRACK:
The music of the battles and most of the other scenes really set the mood of the story.You gotta love the soundtrack. I used to download Mp3s online and listen to them all day. I always wonder who sings the songs at the beginning of the Pokemon shows.

OVERALL:
Overall, Pokemon is a pretty well animated cartoon with lame humor scenes, great music, and simple plots that I'd recommend to kids of all ages.

Oh yeah, although this has nothing to do with this review, buy a telescope (preferably a 6" dobsonian if your budgets are limited). Please, if you think this review is helpful or well-written, please evaluate me down below so I'll know if I should write reviews on telescopes :).

Pokemon
I AM THE BIGGEST POKEMON FAN!
i have watched all the movies and i watch the show regularly. Well i used to.
in my opinion the old pokemon series before the whole jhoto thing was much much better.
Though it is hard to see the lessons behind the so-corney-its-funny-script they are a major part of the plot. Pokemon stresses
to appreciate the hard work of your pokemon and that being power-hungry or evil is not the way to be because power is limited, love is not.
The animation is awsome. And i guarentee that the opening song will get stuck in your mind at one time or another...

Of all the Kids WB anime, this one is my favorite. If you're looking for plot go somewhere else, but for humor it's one of the best.
