Though it was a well produced animé I believe that this film came across as being very much like a live action movie. I don't think that it gained much out of being made into an animé. There is so much that can be done with the genre but this is not a typical example of that.

If there is truth in what I hear, this is because the film was originally a book that was going to be produced as a live action film. Funding was cut and due to comparably lower production costs it was decided to produce it as an animated feature. I don't know if this is accurate but it seems plausible.

The film is a nice thriller and I can understand why it has had such success in the West. It's not a film for younger animé fans though, as it contains sex and violence... and sex always sells ^_^

[and this time my session didn't time out... damned cookies]

Just re-watched this title last week and am very impressed by its difference from traditional anime; I get the feeling that they're trying to create an anime film which is as realistic as possible.

The animation is definitely less stylistic and is the first time i've seen this animation style. They attempt to capture as many nuances as possible, down to the Apple logo on Mima's new computer. There are of course, a few techniques they perserved so that you can still tell it's anime (as opposed to Disney), but on the whole, people, backgrounds, objects and actions are all drawn in a realistic, non-exaggerated manner. Oh, except for the hallucinations, but I think those are excempt.

The plot starts out pretty simple: Mima, a member of a teeny-bopper, all girl j-pop group decides to retire from singing and make a move into TV and modeling. Interwoven in her struggle to make a name for herself is an inner longing to remain the innocent jpop star. The longing grows into a haunting by her former self and forms a suspenseful plot twisting thriller.

The soundtrack is typical jpop and consists mostly of mima's final songs. Very catchy, but also very fluffy and not something i'd want to be stuck in a room with.

This movie is, no contest, the best anime movie out there. It is deep, involved, and complicated, but don't let that scare your minds.
^^ Just kidding...
The first thing my friend said when it was over is "I don't get it."
O_O;; I guess some people just don't pay attention enough.
**Don't watch this unless you are ready to see someone get "raped"**

Amazing! This anime one shot film takes story creativity to new heights. Such a simple concept was made into a beautifully made thriller. If not for this reviewer's taste for psycho thrillers, the rating would definitely have been more than a ten. Highly recommended for all anime fans.

This is one of best flicks that I have ever seen in a long time. This could stand next to Area 88 for overall consistency. Aside from the lack of artwork lies a very intense story. I'm glad that Manga video has released it.

I think this is the first anime to really get my heart beating and make me feel queasy with anticipation. There is a single scene (And no spoiler here) in which Minma is about to undergo her first big role in a television series. IT IS INTENSE! All younger anime fans be warned, it's not a total sex-fest (though she does take it all off), what it is, is a vivid slice of Hitchcock. Be sure to catch tounge-in-cheek parodys of "Power Rangers" Sentai anime shows, super-deformed anime characters, a number of refrences to "The Silence of the Lambs", and a "Warner Brothers" logo that reads "Wanna Bee."

I can't wait 'till simply red.
