Pentax Zoom 8mm-24mm
This eyepiece came with my Pentax 80mm ED spotting scope and I use it in my CR150HD 6" F8 refractor. It works great with a wide 60 Deg FOV at 8mm.With a 2x barlow I get 300X on my 6" refractor. It is my high power eyepiece since my next higher FL is a Pentax XL 14mm.

Pentax Zoom 8mm-24mm
big, heavy, goodlooking eyepiece. top of the line zoom, no others come close! well worth the cost. ive owned the meade,tv,& lv zoom. they are all very good in my opinion but wait till you see & use a pentax smc xl zoom, wow!!! its blows them all out of the water! has a recess for the set screw to securly hold the eyepiece in the holder & screw up & down eyecup. i use mine in a 4.8 dob. works really well good pinpoint stars across 90 percent of the field of view.

Pentax Zoom 8mm-24mm
Seem's to be alot higher quality than my Orion premium zoom. Very big and heavy. The coating's seem alot better than Orion ( Vixen) zoom. I wear glasses and the eye relief is alittle tight. Better without glasses. The zoom function is very stiff. In a everbrite diagonal the zoom function work's fine, but with a 2.5 barlow the whole eyepeice will twist from stiff zoom function. Have to hold entire unit and twist at same time. Very sharp. The image is similar to my Pentax XL's. Very pricey, but it can replace a whole eyepeice line. I don't really get a tunnel vision feeling with this eyepeice like I do with the Orion. Very nice image.

Pentax Zoom 8mm-24mm
This is the sharpest, clearest most distortion free eyepiece I have ever looked through. It is fully corrected for f4.5 systems. Image was very clear , no scattering, reflections, it was like there was nothing between me and the object I was looking at. Okay, so, zoom is stiff, well that's what you get when the eyepiece is WATERPROOF!!! . Its heavy, but I'll tell you, the eyelens is so big and comfortable to look through, you'll wonder why not all eyepieces where designed with comfort in mind first! Me thinks eyepiece is as sharp as pentax smc orthos, that being said rather than collecting all the pentax smc orthos and xp's, this zoom and a very good barlow should be all that you need.

Pentax Zoom 8mm-24mm
Excellent zoom, 38 deg fov at 24mm seems much larger due to large eyelens and eyerelief, though you'll still want another long focal length widefield eyepiece or a good finderscope . Seems like a true widefield at around 12mm up to 8mm. Just a bit of image softness on the outer 10% of field in a f4.8 newtonian. Waterproof design. Exceptional contrast. Very low light scatter from bright objects.
Slightly stiff zoom action got better with use. Built to last. Outstanding for daytime use, very flat field. Optics 9.5
