Pentax Orthoscopic 9mm
Simply gorgeous mid-power eyepiece in my 4" APO. When you want to add a little power to your DSO viewing without losing any brightness or contrast, this is the eyepiece to use. Beautiful, crisp stars, pitch black background... stunning.

These Pentax ortho's are certainly worth the roughly $200 price tag on the used market.

Another winner. I get to use this one more often as seeing has to be pretty special for the 7mm & shorter. The background sky is pitch black!

See my comments on the Pentax SMC 7mm Ortho. Same holds true for this eyepiece. Eye relief is more comfortable than 7mm naturally. Unbelievable performance on planets. Side-by-side comparison with a 9mm Nagler revealed dimness and lack of contrast in the Nagler image. Pentax Orthos RULE on planets!
