Pentax DCF MP 8x28
2 years now. They have held up well. The phase coating is a big plus, good eye relief and a sharp, crisp view. Great for hikes, no worries about water and the weight is great. Neck strap kind of stinks and the eye cups are a tiny bit flimsy but do work. Focus is quick and sure.

Great coatings and optics with great sharpness for a decent price.

Pentax DCF MP 8x28
THE 8X28 DCF-MP ROOF PRISM BINOCULARS ARE THE LATEST COMPACT OFFERING FROM PENTAX. THEY ARE WATER AND FOG PROOF, PHASE COATED-MULTI COATED, RUBBER ARMOURED, AND CAN BE PURCHASED FOR $190. THE OPTICS ARE GOOD-SHARP AND BRIGHT, WITH A 6' FOV. FOCUSING IS SMOOTH, AND THEY HANDLE WELL. YET, THESE CHINESE MADE DCF'S ARE NOT THE EQUAL OF THE JAPANESE MADE DCF-WP ROOF LINE FROM PENTAX. FIT AND FINISH IS JUST NOT AS GOOD, NOR ARE THE MECHANICS, AND THE VIEW DOES NOT "WOW" AS IT DOES IN THE WP'S. THE TWIST-UP EYE CUPS OF THE 8X28'S FEEL FLIMSY AND THE RUBBER ARMOUR DOES NOT HAVE THE SMOOTH, FINISHED FEEL OF THE WP'S. IN MY OPINION, THE PENTAX DCF-WP 8X32'S FOR ABOUT $100 MORE ARE A SUPERIOR GLASS, AS SIZE AND WEIGHT ARE SIMILAR, GAINING ONLY 5 OZ. ADDITIONALLY, IF ONE WANTS COMPACT ROOF PRISM BINOCULARS, I FEEL THERE ARE BETTER, SMALLER OFFERINGS AT VARIOUS PRICES (STEINER 8X22 PREDATOR ,$135--ZEISS 8X20 VICTORY,$320), WHICH ARE FULLY HALF THE WEIGHT OF THE PENTAX MP'S. THE PENTAX 8X28 DCF-MP'S ARE GOOD BINOCULARS WITH ATTRACTIVE FEATURES. HOWEVER, WITH SUCH A WIDE ARRAY OF COMPETATIVE, QUALITY GLASS ON THE MARKET, BETTER OPTIONS ABOUND. C.W.

Pentax DCF MP 8x28
I've had this pair of Pentax compacts for a little over a year now. Optically, they offer a crisp view with very little edge softness. Eye relief is adequate for an eyeglass user like me. The coatings are top-notch. Even in bright light, they show very little reflection. My only minor complaint is that I'd like a wider field of view. Six degrees seems a little skimpy, in my opinion. As the other reviewer stated, the mechanics aren't on a par with Japanese made binos, but they aren't bad. Just not as smooth and solid feeling.

This is a very good bino for daytime use or nighttime use at a sports/concert venue with good lighting. The objectives don't gather enough light for astronomy, other than gazing at the moon.

Compared to other compacts I've used (both 8x25), the images in the Pentax are superior, which is probably due to the extra 3 mm of objective diameter and the high grade coatings. I haven't needed to test the weatherproof aspect, but it's good to have the extra protection. Finally, one thing that Pentax should be criticized for with this product is the sub-standard "carrying case". It's nothing more than a cheap, thinly padded nylon bag. A bino this good and costing this much should be provided with an adequate case.
