Patlabor OAV 1: Mobile Police
Although Patlabor is my favorite mecha series of all time, this series of OAVs isn't quite as good as the movies or the second OAV series. Funny in some places, with the mecha battles (what little there is) being pretty darn cool. Tapes 2 & 3 are better than 1, but 1 is still needed to be watched to get to know the characters. Not for serious mecha fans, as the series focuses more on the people than their mechs. Action fans may be better off with the New Files or the movies, but pretty good for fans of cop shows, thrills, humor, and cuteness (Noa is just too kawaii... I've never seen a Japanese girl with red hair, but at least it's better than green or purple or blue like in other anime). Definitely worth a rental, at least. Give the series a chance.. it may grow on you.

Patlabor OAV 1: Mobile Police
The prototype version of Patlabor.... The characterisation and story development is poor.
