I have the 1.25" version that I use in my 14" f4.7 at a rural setting. Sky glow is not a major concern (community of 3000 is 3 miles to the south). Still, I get significant results. Objects such as M42 have significantly expanded boundaries. The Ring Nebula popped out far more clearly. I also use it in my Nighthawk for scanning. I pick up objects more readily with it in use.

I bought one of these filters used off of eBay and was initially disappointed. Through a 6" f/8 and an 8" f/6 it wiped out light pollution but dimmed everything in the field so much it was useless except on very bright nebulae in heavy light pollution. Well, I did find it worked well for picking out details on both Jupiter and the Moon.

But with the acquisition of an 8" f/4.5 scope I've found the filter can work wonders. The Veil nebula stands out distinctly in skies where it was invisible without the filter and I've finally been able to see the North American Nebula clearly. Even in rural skies the size of the Lagoon nebula almost doubles when the filter is inserted.

In short the filter does an excellent job of of dimming the background in fast scopes but is much less useful for longer focal lengths unless you are in heavy light pollution. The only real problem I have with it is that it seems to change the focus slightly when used at higher powers but that is a minor annoyance.

I have the 1.25 version and it really helps darken the sky and seems to work quite well on nebula where I am with moderate light polution. Have only used it with the included 25mm & 10mm plossls that came with my SkyWatcher scope which are OK but not great by any means.

I purchased used for 25.00 U.S... I live in a the heart of a smaller city of about 40,000... I found it helped quite a bit on nebulae.. I really concentrated on m42 the Orion nebulae.. I couldn't believe the difference.. It extended the whisps to twice that which I normally saw without it. I was using it on an 8 inch dob with the eyepieces from the Celestron Kit... Well worth what I paid for it.

I use it on a 4,5" newton. Overall a good-purpose filter. I recommend it, expecially on small scopes like the mine.

Orion Skyglow Broadband
This is a good filter. It does darken the sky while emphasizing nebulae. The effect is moderate because it is a broadband filter, but it is noticeable. It is especially useful in bringing out the cloud bands on Jupiter (really!). The only drawback is ghosting due to the type of coatings used to isolate colors to transmit/reject.
