Orion Shortube 4.5 EQ Reflector
This Scope is nothing but a horrible abberation. Its contstruction idea with barlow in front of the secondary, is such that the manufacturer/vendor should be ashamed for selling/marketing it! This scope seems to be aimed at firsttime scope total novice purchasers, who have absolutely NO idea about optics! To buy this scope, is the same as to throw away one`s money, for nothing but a piece of total craaaaaaaaaaaap!

Orion Shortube 4.5 EQ Reflector
I bought this scope for my wife and I as our first real telescope. I put it together in about 40 minutes and collimated the primar mirror myself with little effort. Because it's a really short tube and light weight, the scope is easy to move around and set up. The tripod/mount is Orion's aluminum EQ-1 and the scope comes with 25 and 10mm Explorer II eyepieces. One interesting (and very important) thing I have found is that it has a built in Barlow lens in the focuser, which is why such a short tube has such a long (1000mm) focal length. This was a bit of a disappointment because it means I can't add a barlow of my own to it and get high (200x and above) magnification views of the planets without buying a really short focal lenght eyepiece. The 10mm (100x) eyepiece gives a decent view of Saturn. I can see the rings and planet very clearly, but I can't see the Cassini Division. I was able to make out a few bands on Jupiter. In darker skies I was impressed with the Orion Nebula and the Andromeda Galaxy. For a $200 scope, I'm very happy. I've even seen it on sale for $150 closer to Christmas.

optically a very nice telescope. I should say the telescope is more for a beginner. It performs well considering it is only 4.5" and images were clear to the edge of the view. The mount is pretty stable. Recommend but not for a serious observer.
