Orion Lanthanum 7.5mm
Very good in terms of sharpness and contrast, providing very nice black sky background, and with very comfortable and usable eye relief. No ghosting. The image brightness, color purity, and overal image quality is not as high as the Pentax, Meade RG, and UO 7mm Orthos; and while the Pentax 7mm XL offers a brighter image and wider FOV, the 7.5 LV I have beat the XL in terms of sharpness and contrast. The Orion catalog states that the FOV is 50 degrees, but in comparison with the 7mm Pentax Ortho, I believe it is closer to 45 degrees. One nice thing about the Orion version is that it's rubber eyecup is softer and more pliable than the black Vixen models, which means that one can really roll down the eye cup if desired. If you wear eye glasses or just prefer a more comfortable extended viewing experience, this is a very respectable eyepiece option.

I've compared quite a few eyepieces in f/5.4 and f/5.3 refractors, and am basing my ratings on image quality, not FOV.

Orion Lanthanum 7.5mm
I bought the Vixen original-a 7mm LV eyepiece-for my TV Pronto a few weeks ago.Apart from the small appaent FOV of 45 degrees, this is a superb piece of glass.Stars were pin-sharp points all the way to the edge of the field.I was suprised to see so many faint stars pop into view around Vega and Altair.Views of the moon were crisp with the surrounding sky pitch black. The double-double Epsilon Lyrae could be seen quite clearly, along with the ring nebula. The long eye relief makes for more comfortable observing. An excellent alternative to the legendary 7mm Nagler.

Orion Lanthanum 7.5mm
When compared to a Plossl of similar focal length (Meade 3000 6.7), the former's 20mm eye relief is an added benefit, but at slight loss of image contrast and brightness. Moreover, when compared to a barlowed combination (Meade 3000 16 and 2x Ultima barlow), the eye relief advantage of the lanthanum unit is no longer an issue. The Orion(Vixen) eyepiece is not bad, is just that there are more useful alternatives with a little better performance and at less cost.

Orion Lanthanum 7.5mm
An excellent higher power eyepiece. Fit and finish are top notch, I was impressed first time I picked it up. It's quite a hefty piece of glass. The eye lens is a huge 20mm with an amazing amount of eye relief. The views are contrasty and sharp throughout the field. It works great in my Short Tube 80 as well as my 8" F/10 SCT. I don't even consider using my Meade SP 4000 6.4mm anymore. I can see adding a few more of this series to my eyepiece case.
