Orion Explorer II 17mm
This ep came with my 4.5" f/4 Starblast. Provides nice bright views. Also worked nice in my 8" f/6 dob. I have a 15mm TV plossls and a TV it ain't. But still provided nice views and for someone on a tight budget or just starting out to figure what mags work best for them, then this is a great buy.
Thanks

Orion Explorer II 17mm
Very good eyepiece-has 4 elements-has a little weight to it--very nice contrast in a f4.4 fast scope.Very close to the 16mm Konig I use to have in over all contrast and resolving power, but not as wide FOV.Good ocular for the buck!

Orion Explorer II 17mm
This is an eyepiece that is good for DSO's or clusters. The 17mm is also a great star-party eyepiece - delivering good performance at a very reasonable cost. It delivers bright, good contrast images in my f/8 reflector. I've noticed, however, that sharpness quickly degrades in the final 1/3rd of the apparent field.

BTW, judging by side by side comparisons within our astronomy group, the Orion Explorer II and Celestron SMA's are virtually identical save for the stick-on labels. Remove the latter and you wouldn't be able to dicern any optical or cosmetic differences.

Orion Explorer II 17mm
I have a strange collection of eyepieces. Bought this and an explorer 10 to use until I could afford good eyepieces in those focal lengths. Very plesantly surprised this is a good eyepiece. I use it with a 5" F10 SCT. Finish is OK but performancr belies its looks. Pleasant views, good contrast, nice brightness and reasonably sharp. For the price it's a real winner. It is doing a fine job while I save up for a ultra wide. Highly recommended for a tight budget outperforms it's price quite nicely.

This eyepiece was included with my Orion 8" f/6 Deep Space Explorer, and it was a darn nice eyepiece. I worked great on Globulars with the Orion Shorty Barlow. M13 looked spectacular. However for about the same price, you can get an Adorama 17mm Plossl.

Orion Explorer II 17mm
This, along with the 13mm and 6mm, make up the plossl eyepieces in the orion explorer 2 line. This is an excellent low cost eyepiece with very little field curvature and good sharpness and brightness to the edge. Solid performer.
