Orion Explorer 90mm Altazimuth Refractor
I owned this telescope for approximately one year. It was my first "serious" instrument. I did not think to perform the "star test" on it, BUT I was amazed at what this fine telescope revealed when pointed up. I have a beautiful view of a Pennsylvania valley so I purchased this telescope primarily for terrestrial viewing, which it did a fine job for me, but after taking it outside after dark I was hooked on astronomy. I was have seen 4 or more cloud bands on Jupiter, and using a 2x barlow and 20mm Plossl eyepiece I have very comfortably seen a very dark Cassini division at Saturn. I sold this telescope to upgrade to a Celestron C102HD, primarily for the equatorial mount. Due to very few clear nights since obtaining the C102HD, I have looked at very few familiar targets. But from what I have seen so far, I now realize what a fine instrument the Orion 90mm actually was. I would recommend this telescope for anyone looking for a primarily terrestrial instrument, BUT be careful or you may get the bug to stay outside in the cold all night too.
