Olympus Magellan 8x42 EXPWP
Too little resistance in the focusing mechanism - focus changes when I press the binoculars against my face! Major drawback! Good edge sharpness, bright view, comfortable eyecups and eye relief.

Olympus Magellan 8x42 EXPWP
This is the latest offering from Olympus. In fact it is manufactured by a large Japanese OEM firm. Therefore its specification is similar to many Jap. companies offerings. It is not necessary bad, because the manufacturing firm becomes expert in such products.

For less than 200USD (In HK) this represents the best value in mid-price birding glasses. Bright and clear enough for ordinary uses. The edge performance is good. Some color fringes can be noted when viewing high contrast objects, but not distracting in most cases.

Of course my Leica 12x50 BN beats it hand down optically, but it in turn puts Leica to shame in handling. It being rugged but light-weighed, I perfer bring it to the field. Only when I want to do high quality binoc compaison do I bring my Leica to the star party.

Comment on Olympus 8x42 EXPS

Bought these for $130 one month ago.
I agree with previous comment except for a detail: in my bino, it´s not the
focus that drifts, but the diopter, so I have to hold it with my finger.
Apart this, I find these binoculars very satisfactory.
I use spectacles and still can see all FOV with them (eyecups folded down). They make no eyestrain and do not suffer from "blackout".
They are sharp across most of the field, not just in the center as others,
show very litle flare/ghosting, and chromatic aberration is hard to notice.
I have several pairs os binos in this range and these are my best (I cant compare with top guns).
