Due to better coatings (=> light transmission) and ED-objectives, these are IMHO even slightly better than the Fujinon's 16x70. With the same true field and sharpness, but higher light-throughput the magnification of 18x is more efficient.
They are definitely more efficient than Miyauchi's 20x77!
Since I use them only for astronomy, their inability to reach close focus is no disadvantage to me.
Only drawback: relatively short eye-relief of 15.4 mm forced me to unscrew the rubber-eyecups for observations near the zenith. But since I use these binoculars only at dark sites this is only a minor drawback....

These are excellent high power/large aperture binoculars. Due to their high power and 4.5 pound weight, you definately need a mount for them. They have a very wide field (70 degrees apparent, 4 degrees true) for such a high power binocular. This makes it easy to find objects with them and to pan around like Saggitarius and the Summer Milky Way. Individual rich field objects like M7, M8, M24, M31, M45, M42 and the Double Cluster look great as you would expect. The moon is also very impressive. They resolve Saturn's rings by just barely. They are waterproof/fogproof and each eyepiece must be individually focused. Their one drawback as a high power terrestrial glass is that the object must be 80 meters or more away in order to come into focus. They use ED class and are exceptionally clear, sharp and bright to look through. They have a near perfect 4.00mm exit pupil for older observers so they don't waste any aperture. Like all of Nikon's top of the line astronomy binoculars, they are very expensive.

Great binos, but do not purchase a pair without trying them first. If you have close set eyes, the interpupilary distance won't adjust close enough for you. I returned the pair I purchased and picked up a pair of Canon 15x50 IS. Now I don't need a tripod, which the Nikon's require. They are heavy.
