Very good price for the optics. A very handsome binoculars, eye relief a little bit tight for eyeglasses users, but with the cup folded down, it is ok. Excellent optics for both day and night. Again, got it for CAD$190 in Toronto. Guessed they are better priced in Canada than in US.

Very comfortable, and right on the edge of steady handheld size for quick astro viewing. I mainly use them with a photo tripod, however, which is why I went with the 12x instead of the 10x in this series (see other comments on 10x Nikon Lookouts). VERY clear views of moon, planets. Good visibility into major Messier objects (thhough I've only tried M31, M5, a few others so far).

Not as bright as larger aperture/giant models out there, but can't beat the price and portability. Some coma and chromatic abberation on Jupiter, bright stars, etc, but none on moon. Edges are pretty fuzzy, but field is wide enough, even at 12x, that it doesn't matter much to me. Definitley notice the curving others mentioned (for the 10x) in daytime terrestrial view. Got them at a local (SF Bay Area) dealer because I wanted them NOW, but mail order outfits like Eagle Optics have them for about $140. Overall, excellent for the price/performance. Can't wait to go head-to-head against my buddy's Orion 10x50s and see who "wins"!

It's good to the edge. 12x power is a bit shaky but tripod will definitely help here. All 4 Jupitor's moons can be resolved nice and bright. Eye relief is relatively short @9.4mm, that's the only shortcoming, else superb optics for the price. Got them for CDN$209 at Japan Camara Centre in Toronto.

Nikon Action Fieldmaster 12x50
Good quality binocs, good close focus and very good resolution. However, due to the small 4.2mm exit pupil, images are noticeably dimmer and less colorful than my Celestron Ultima 8x56. Well-built. Light enough for handheld use, but somewhat heavy for extended handheld use.

I haven't tried these on a tripod yet, so most of my glances at the sky were frustrated by the unsteady view. Handheld I was able to clearly make out Jupiter's four big moons and elongation in Saturn, but it wasn't really FUN due to the work involved in holding them steady! In handheld form, I would use these as daytime terrestrial only. But as the previous reviewer mentioned, they're good for astronomical use on a tripod!
