Description:7 day rentals of DVD's for about $5 each (price includes shipping). Also, if you like it, you can keep it. The cost of the rental is subtracted from the sales price. 7.25% sales tax applies for California residents. The only place I have found on the web to rent anime DVD titles.

been a member for 7 months. they sit on the turnaround for 1 to 3 days. zfor what it is, it's good.
seems like they overdid the service early on, and people got spoiled.
no problems with lost disks, and we're on the east coast. i still spend less (when including late fees)
and have a much better selection than blockb$%st@rd. it works for me.

The price is going up soon and I am cutting back on the number of films, from 8 to 5 at a time, and will increase my use of local rentals.

I like lots of old stuff and even crappy stuff, so NetFlix has plenty for me to see. It's annoying however that there are "very long waits" for new releases. They're a lousy resource for new reases.

When you ask them to carry specific titles, they NEVER respond, not even if you give them the source where they can obtain the DVDs in print. They don't understand the idea of getting ALL of a given directors' works. Someone there must love anime, but doesn't know diddly shit about Japanese cinema overall, so unless good to bad Japanese cartoons is the only Japanese stuff of interest, you're pretty much out of luck. Their knowledge of Hong Kong cinema is even more pathetic, totally hit & miss, & mostly miss. Obviously nobody there has a clue who the great directors & the classic films are, for even though their stocks of Hong Kong cinema is fairly large, it shrinks to near nothing if you're looking for the recognized classics & transcendently good films.

Their "recommendations" system is a fraud. I rated over time 1,000 horror movies, but their system never recommends horror movies. It always recommends the same few films I've either seen or have no earthly desire to see. For over a year they keep recommending in the "classics" section "Black Narcissus," no matter WHAT I actually give high ratings to. A half dozen other films are recommended month after month -- making me suspect they own rights to them or something. No matter what you rate, the system supposedly based on personal ratings of films are the same films recommended to everyone else. They're dishonest crudbums to waste our time on their assinine recommendations fraud.

They've in the last few months slowed down their turn-around time from one or two days to three or four days, seemingly intentionally slowing down the system as a method of increasing their profits.

I'm easy to please but NetFlix isn't very pleasing. If I was hard to please I'd've unsubscribed long ago, as they don't seem really to be trying very hard.

If a similar rental system started up, I'd switch in an instant, hoping a competitor would try harder to do it right.

Ditto the others' comments. They turned my rentals around daily for the first 2 months. Then they must have decided I was doing too well (I live around 15 miles from the shipping center so delivery was next day). Suddenly they forcibly slowed down my pace. When they receive my returns early Friday morning, they withhold shipping the next batch until Monday. Virtually every shipment is now being delayed. Their advertisements are only true for new customers... once you're in for a while, they screw you.

If you are a heavy user, expect Netflix to slow you down by claiming DVD's you returned have not been received by them. I live within 5 miles of their distribution center so was getting 1 day service both ways. This equated to 6 movies/week. Almost immediately after I paid for the first time, the slow down began. Don't be fooled into faulting the USPS. Netflix will control how many movies you get by using the "not received" scam.

No more annoying "clear to ship" status messages. Now they just don't acknowledge they received your DVDs in a timely fashion. Any time a DVD is reported as shipped it has arrived the next day (and only once in two days). However shipping DVDs back to them has increasingly taken longer and longer.

I'm not so upset that they refuse to acknowledge that they have my disc, but I'd prefer if I knew how long it was going to be before I would even be sent another disc so I can at least hang on to the ones I have and watch them a bit more before sending them back.

Otherwise what's the point of sending the disc back the next day if it means being without any DVDs for a week. I'll hang on to my discs longer (up to a point) if it means I'll get fast turnaround and acknowledged receipt of my returns.

I have had the Netflix service for 2 years, and it has been well worth the price. I have never received a damaged disc, and the turnaround time has consistently been 2-4 days. The 'no late fees' policy has been a blessing for us, as a late DVD can turn a $10 night of entertainment into $30 quickly at a traditional video store. Plus, I have seen a lot of movies I would probably not have picked out at the video store. Definitely worth the investment.

I've had very limited experience with Netflix. A brother-in-law brought four movies to a week-long family affair last summer. Of the four disks, two would stop at some point, and could not be viewed beyond that point. Visual inspection revealed extensive physical damage, damage which would have been obvious to any Netflix employee had they looked. I don't think it is fair to characterize this Netflix customer (my brother-in-law) as someone who is looking to get something for nothing---as the Netflix customer relations employee explicitly stated in his posting. Netflix clearly has some service problems it needs to address head-on.

To be fair, I have a son-in-law who seems to be satisfied with his Netflix service (although I've not asked him specifically about damaged disks).

The business model is a great one. I just wonder if they have had not more success than their systems can handle.

Since september 2002 they are having many problems with lost movies in their flushing, NY facility. I am very close to cancel the service since it is becoming such a hassle. I've been a Netflix customer since September 2001
