My Neighbor Totoro
This is a beautiful story about a couple of children who meet with Totoro... a forest spirit, after moving into a "haunted house" while their mother is sick in hospital.

It is truely a family movie, from the animation of the children and the way they look at the world, to the concerns their parents have for them and the joy the have when they are together. Though it is lacking in violence I think that (like most good family movies) it is NOT just for kids.

The animation (though in an older style - this was created in 1988) is brilliant. Care and attention to detail has been invested, and continuity and light sourcing provide a setting that is easy to immerse yourself in. The backgrounds are gloriously colourful and the scenery is gorgeous.

My Neighbour Totoro (Tonari no Totoro) is a story of what it is to be young and has surreal aspects and characters that are remeniscent of classics such as Alice in Wonderland. You have to love a bus shaped like a cat that runs on 12 legs... don't you?

If only all children had the benefit of having such a supportive father. (And yes.. I want to sleep on Totoro's belly too!)

This is not a children's movie. It is beautiful visual poem which happens to have children in it. Compare it to films by Yasujiro Ozu.

Next time you see it, watch how the postion of the sun affects the atmosphere of the last day of the story. The sun also tells you in which direction Satsuki is running.

Watch, someone's bound to hate this film because it's a children's film and therefore not filled with blood and guts and over-stacked girls -_-;; Personally I adore it, and it earns a 10 rating. It made me want to be a kid again! I WANNA SLEEP ON A TOTORO'S BELLY! Lucky Mai..anyway, highly reccomended if you don't mind a sweet, gently, non-cloying family film with no big guns or mecha. And if your parents think anime is nothing but senseless violence, get them to watch this movie! It'll change their minds!

A great movie for children, and me, being an 18 year old child really enjoyed the simplicity and wonder of such great anime. I wish I had a Totoro.

Magical film. Kiki's a better film due to better plotline. Overall it has some magical moments. Great movie.

The movie I have to give a thumb up, and thumb down. The animation is great. But the Mizaki Hayao could've made the plot even better. Like putting more encounters with the totoros to which I thought were highly interesting and entertaining creatures.

This is a magical film and every animé fan should see it at least once ^_^The animation is fantastic and the story line is imaginative...I love Totoro and want one to come and live in my tree!
