An 84-degree 8.8mm eyepiece that shows darker skies than a handpicked 9mm HD Ortho, while being just as sharp and contrasty (when used with an FS-102 and a C9.25)... I’m amazed!

I have done a side by side comparison with a 9mm nagler type 1. The meade 8.8mm UWA was nice, I even think that the FOV is wider then the 9m Nag, but the 9mm Nagler has much better contrast.
I did a side by side comparo on M-13 and I could see way more stars in the 9mm nag then I could with the 88mm UWA.

The Meade had more lateral color near the fieldstop too as compared to the nagler,but of course the 9mm Nagler had more pincusion distortion near its edges. The 8.8 does NOT blow the 9mm nagler away on sharpness, I would have to say that the 9mm Nag and the 8.8 meade UWA are almost the same on axis.

Using it on the Starmaster 12.5" F/4.5, the 8.8 has that snap-to-focus feel to it (perhaps the Zambuto mirror contributes some). I have not tested it against the 9mm Nagler, so I don't know which is better. There is no intrusive black-out and the 84 degrees is simply awesome. Why no perfect score, then? No EP deserves a perfect 10 - every product can be proved upon.

Meade Ultra Wide Angle 8.8mm
Coupled with my Meade 8" SCT, this eyepiece gives wonderful 3-D views of planets and moon: bright and contrasty.
Not to mention the field of view, so large to get lost in it!
Great also on some DSO's such as globular clusters.
It's my favourite EP up to now (I happened to use Naglers and Pentaxes, but the 8.8 UWA is a step forward).

This eyepiece is pure GOLD! I got an Orion XT10 scope, and using this 8.8mm on it is great. I love it so much! I think it is the best in the world! I also love the 4.7mm UWA too.

9mm of eye relief? No way! I would say there's at least 13mm. I once had a 12mm Nagler T2 and it is rated at 10 or 11mm of eye relief, but you really have to mash your eye right in there to see the entire FOV. The 8.8mm 4000 UWA has enough relief that you don't have to do this. With a barlow it gets even better. Super sharp right to the edge with a barlow and without the sharpness goes to 95% @ f/4.7
This EP is amazing !!!

I bought this eyepiece for $150 brand new this month! On a Hardin 6" f/8 dob it performs just as good as an old 11mm Nagler and 8" f/7 eq.reflector I once had years ago.I wish they were still around,but my new scope and 8.8 uwa eyepiece remind me of those old days.Sharp wide angle viewing on a longer reflector never gets any better.Faint stars on a 22mm Orion Epic-2 eyepiece just gets bigger and brighter with the 8.8mm it seems.The moon,planets,star clusters and double stars just got more interesting in a 6"!

I just got an older version of this eyepiece on ebay at a good price and it is terrific -- wide field, sharp images -- in fact, the best views of Saturn and Jupiter I've ever seen through my 10" LX200. It provides a very comfortable amount of power on a good night.
