My rating is for the 4000 series volcano/flat top version. I really like this e.p alot, the views are great from planets and the moon to DSO's. It is just a fun e.p to use and I cant find a reason not to keep it.

I will say first... I didn't want to like this eyepiece. I was very comfortable with my T6 naglers for the same purpose, and didn't want to change. The naglers are like an old friend.

But...

In all respects, this just outperforms the 7mmT6. It is just as sharp, sharper near the edge. Good for planets because there is little to no pincushion distortion. VERY VERY cool colored images, and little reflections. Easily saw all 7 moons of saturn in my 10", including Mimas and Tethys that were right next to the globe. Even in the T6 these moons were tough because of slight halo around the planet. But they were a cinch in the meade. I have to say that I really like it.

I gave it a final rating of '8' because of one thing. For some insanely STUPID reason, Meade has greased the barrel so the adjustable eyeguard will be smooth. This is dumb. Fortunately, after some time I was able to wipe it all off and keep it clean, and the action is still very smooth. Other than that though, no complaints.

I got one of these used with serious ailments: small scratches on top lens and major coatings removal off lowermost lens.. You know what I love it. I use it in a 10 in f/5 dob and I now use it as a regular, much more than the orthos and plossls because of their small fields. I highly recommend this eyepiece and would love to see the views in a perfect one. I have a C8 and haven't tried it in that scope yet and expect the views to be worse due to the much increased mag, but in dobs it is great.

The value is worth it and the optical quality beats out the TV 7mm nagler anyday of the week. In my f/9 reflecter stars are pinpoint to the edg of the fov at 341X . The eye relief is just right and the fov feels like you are looking thru a porthole in space. it,s worh it and a keeper for me. Great contrast and on-axis detail on Jupiter and saturn telescope8@hotmail.com

In my 8" f/6 dob, stars are points (dots) to the edge of the field. Good planet definition with Jupiter showing several bands (during moments of good seeing) and Saturn shows good ring divisons (again good seeing) and 4 to 5 moons.

I think this eyepiece is a real sleeper. It's actually one of my favorites to use for planetary viewing and normally I do not like Meade eyepieces. It seems to be a good value for the money.

Using this for higher powers in an Antares Skywatcher 8" f/5 Dob.
Fairly small and lightweight, with decent eye relief, well corrected except for
lateral color in the outermost parts of the field, no blackouts, no ghosting.
Focus position is noticeably outward compared to my run-of-the-mill 20mm.

Thanks to the large field, it is extremely convenient in a Dobsonian: less
time spent tracking targets, more time spent observing! This and the 143x
magnification render it pretty universal - for many targets, this is what I
reach for first after centering them in a long f.l. e/p. Albireo is pure joy,
the double-double is neatly resolved, and with a skyglow filter attached,
I nailed NGC4494 last night by aiming at 17 Com and letting the sky drift
through the FOV.

I also have the 8.8 and 4.7 of this series (see there). I'm fond of all of them;
and prefer my Orthos only for special purposes (when there's an overriding
reason to put up with their tiny 40° AFOV!).

This is the first wide angle eye piece I have owned. Needless to say it is excellent on any object I throuw at it in my f5 6inch reflector. This is just the start, instead of spending money on an eye piece of lesser quantity I will invest in these quality lenses. It is true you get what you pay for.

I rated this eyepiece earlier using it in my 6" reflector. I now have a 6" refractor and have really appreciated the sharpness and contrast this eyepiece offers when used with it. Just an all around great eyepiece that bumps up the power a bit when I want more than the 14mm UWA and yet want maintain a fairly decent FOV. I agree with the above post. The Meade UWA eyepieces, at least the two I own, give the TeleVue a run for the money... The 6.7 is a solid "10" in my new scope.
