This is by far the best scope i've owned, clearly resolves saturn with a 7.4MM TV plossl and a 3X TV Barlow(thats somewhere aroung 500X)on jupiter i use the same EP with a 2X TV Barlow, this scope shows lunar transits on jupiter like someone took a cookie cutter to the surface(wow)GRS is easily resolved and more easily so with the aid of color filters, the reason i only gave the scope a 9 is because of the strap style tuberings and the incrediably cheap focuser meade chose for this otherwise great scope,,,get some Ken Dauzat rings, and a decent focuser and you have a scope that will hang with most $1500.00 scopes (and kill alot of them). For those ATM while you have the focuser off go ahead and take the entire OTA apart and get a can of Krylon Ultra-Flat Black paint and re-do the inside of the tube(these mods greatly improved my scope)Hope you've found this useful.

Happy Gazing !!!!!

The Meade Scope is excellent for the money. I don't like the finder scope. I use a telerad. The motordrive is finicky but is pretty reliable and works great with a little maintenace. The Optics are great no complaint. I am able to see object just as bright as my buddies 8" Dob. Colimation is the key. Scott

The mount is solid and smooth, worth the money just for the mount. Tracking is quiet and accurate.
The scope resolves nicely in moderately dark skies. The only real drawback is the plastic focusser.

I recently had this scope out on "loan" as I was restoring ot for my daughter's school. It needed a little care and maintenance as the optics were very dirty and out of alignment. After I finished the work, I set it up and compared it to my Celestron CR-150 refractor. The mount is very heavy and sturdy, but there is a little play in the R.A. axis. The Meade star-tested average, I would say, and was a bit undercorrected. Stars were fairly pinpoint, but not as sharp as the refractor. Images were bright. Planetary images were good, but the refractor showed more sharpness and detail. There was no false color that you get in an achromat, but the diffraction spikes caused by the secondary mount were a bit annoying on Jupiter. On a whole, not a bad scope but a pain to haul outside due to the weight. Recommended.
